Yes, we got a few days of False Spring. Enough to get everyone thinking about what they want to plant. Just when we were ready to get our shorts on...the sun disappeared and the rain and cold came back. Natives know that was false spring - sometimes known as Fool's Spring. Never believe a heat wave in February. The official last night for a dip below 32 degrees (the freezing point) in Sonoma County is April 15. Tax day! Dream on.

Community Gardeners! Saturday, March 9, is the Second Saturday spruce-up morning for all bed renters. Turn out when you can from 9 AM to Noon and bring your hat, mud boots, gloves, favorite gardening tool and some water. Join your fellow gardeners in maintaining the common areas of the garden. Saturday's word is: Weeds! Let's get rid of 'em in the pathways and other common areas (outside your bed).
The Town Green Community Garden Leadership Group would like to remind all gardeners to please keep their beds free of weeds, and please weed the pathways that border their beds, no matter what month it is. (Log any pathway weeding time in the volunteer hours notebook in the kiosk so you get credit for it.)
Remember, all Town Green Community Garden bed renters agree to perform 6 hours of volunteer maintenance work in the garden during the calendar year. Stay on top of it and that's two hours a month!

California Geology, Soils Workshop a Hit
It was a dark and stormy day February 17th, but that didn't stop some 16 people from turning out at the Windsor Library for a workshop on California's unique geology and microclimates. The event was organized by Windsor Garden Club and the Windsor Regional Library.
UC Berkeley graduate student Gregory Arena of UC Berkeley's Jepson Herbarium was the chief presenter, followed by Max Angell of the Petrified Forest. She presented on both the natural history of the Petrified Forest, as well as its cultural history, and her family's work there. Angell answered answered questions and made herself available to the group afterwards.
Audience member Tanja Miller won the drawing for a free 2024 membership in the Windsor Garden Club! Thanks to all who turned out on a very rainy day to learn more about California and its natural resources.
