Comfort Food for the Soul

Monthly Encouragement to Bless Your Heart

But those who hope in the Lord

will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles;

they will run and not grow weary,

they will walk and not faint.

 Isaiah 40:31 NIV

The smell of new

First Day pictures.

last-minute hugs,

Morning meltdowns.

Moms with racing thoughts

in parked cars, waiting.

School days are back!

(Deep Breath)

If you’ve never had the privilege

of perching in a parked car

in the August heat with a name

placard affixed to your windshield,

with the added pressure

of stopping at the right cone

to get the right kid

without holding up

the other picker-uppers

with better things to do than

watch you figure out which button

opens the back sliding door,

Honey, you haven’t lived.

For years, I started the school year

in the pick-up line the usual way:

waiting for my kids while reading

magazines, chatting on the

phone, and lamenting about

never having "enough time".

(If I had had TikTok and Reels

supplying endless clips

of cute puppies and

life hacks as we do now,

I'm not sure what I would have done!)

Honestly, I felt justified in

just doing NOTHING.

After all, I was tired and

this was MY time!

Moms act as taxi drivers, bankers,

medics, chefs, event planners,

stylists, moderators, referees,

housekeepers, counselors,

and playmates.

Even when removed from the

laundry to fold, dishes to wash,

and deadlines to meet,

the weight of the ”Mother Load”

can be heavy.

One day, God spoke to my heart

about how I chose to use my time.

This specific time.

His message so tenderly

pointed out my wandering

and removed the excuses for

not having "enough time"

for devotions or prayer.

Did I choose Him every

day after that?

I wish I could say that’s true.

However, on the days

when I chose Him,

“Mom’s Taxi” became a

sanctuary to shut out the

noisy world and reset the

tone of my heart.

What happens when

our children are young adults

(like mine) and you are out

of "the line"?

What about when our

schedules are full with

daily responsibilities for

work and family?

Busyness is not new.

In Luke 10:38-42,

two sisters are expecting company.

While Martha works hard to welcome

Jesus to her home, her sister,

Mary simply sits at his feet and listens.

Both Mary and Martha serve, yet Mary

understands the priority and

the necessity of choosing to

focus on Christ.

I know what you're thinking:

If Mary had helped Martha,

the work would be finished

and they could both sit down.

Not the point.

Jesus affirmed that Mary chose

the better thing

when she sat at her Master’s feet,

not because she was escaping

responsibilities.

She knew when Jesus was

in the room, nothing

else mattered.

If you’re feeling dusty,

drained, or drowsy,

Isaiah 28:12 says,

“This is the refreshing”.

When we carve time for the

“better thing” in the busyness,

God shows up with strength.

What is taking your focus?

What are you choosing?

Do you have a time set

aside to sit and listen to His voice?

Whether you're waiting in line or

working at a desk, making time with

God a priority promises

refreshing renewal.

We never have to

wait in line to meet

with Jesus.

Prayer: Lord, be with each student,

parent, and beginning a new

school year and renew our desire

to spend time with You.

Laughter is Good Medicine

Proverbs 17:22

What does a nosy pepper do?

Gets jalapeño business!

What do you call a parade of rabbits

hopping backward?

A receding hare-line.

What's the difference between

Dubai and Abu Dhabi?

People in Dubai

don't like the Flintstones

but people in

Abu Dhabi doooooo.
