At oldpeoplebrand we see silence as support for the oppressor, so I felt it necessary to voice our support for the Black Lives Matter movement. Systematic change & police reform needs to occur for a difference to be made. I wanted to provide this link which offers numerous ways to support, you can choose what works best for you. We need to stand together for what is right, and educate ourselves on the intricacies of this issue, in order to make a positive change that is long overdue! - Hollis https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/

MOVIE Children Of Men, 2006 Alfonso Cuarón’s 2006 film Children of Men is a story about one man’s journey through a war-torn world, as his life shifts from meaningless to humanity’s unlikely savior. Set in a dystopian-like London in 2027, humans have been incapable of reproducing for the past eighteen years. Theo Von finds himself involved in society’s best shot to avoid imminent extinction. The cinematography is nothing short of jaw-dropping. Lubezki captures scenes unlike any film I’ve seen before. My favorite shot coming near the end, where an approximately 20-minute long take resembles something out of a Call of Duty Campaign mode. Many of the scenes wouldn’t fly in Hollywood but I love Cuarón’s decision to make things as life-like as possible. From start to finish, the pacing is fantastic. The film faintly conveys complex messages and social commentary; touching on ethics, faith, fear, and human nature. It’s difficult to believe how far the story manages to go in under 2 hours. Children of Men is a powerful film that thrusts you into an eerie and far too real atmosphere. The brilliance behind it continues to stick with me for weeks after each viewing. |

PODCAST KERWIN FROST TALKS TO SZA (EPISODE 9) Solána Imani Rowe, known professionally as SZA, released her debut project in 2012. Her first studio album in 2017, Ctrl, peaked at #5 on the Billboard Top 100. She’s also amassed 9 total Grammy nominations over 2018 and 2019. LINK: https://youtu.be/OpHw3byrimM *Can also be found on various podcast platforms* MY TAKEAWAY: In this episode of Kerwin Frost Talks, SZA discusses how she went from a bartender to a breakout artist, “fashions,” and finding the best version of herself. Similar to the way Kerwin dresses, his podcast manages to be just as distinct. Kerwin has the ability to connect and garner trust from each of his interviewees, often traveling to them for each recording. Frost’s mix of effortless conversational and comedic skills makes for an organic conversation, I love it! |

Thankful to Hollis for introducing me to mountain biking videos! Dude just put them on one day, and I thought it was awesome一hahaha. I don’t know if it’s the beautiful scenery or wild lines/jumps, but either way, it’s entertaining! If you enjoy the video, I’d recommend checking out Red Bull Rampage, other Claudio Caluori videos, and the Mountain of Hell. |

ARTICLE ‘The Midnight Gospel’ Is The Trippy Existential Animated Series For Our Time by David Bloom LINK: https://www.forbes.com/sites/dbloom/2020/04/24/the-midnight-gospel-duncan-trussell-pendleton-ward-netflix-animation/#581d51cd564f MY TAKEAWAY: One of my favorite ways to pass the time during quarantine has been tuning into Duncan Trussell and Pendleton Ward’s recently released show, The Midnight Gospel. This article goes into great detail into what this show is about. Due to the nature of the show, you can skip around to what catches your eye. Overall, The Midnight Gospel served as an excellent lesson for me. Each episode works as a great source of mindfulness and wisdom on topics not adequately discussed today. If I had to recommend one, I’d suggest skipping ahead to the heartwarming final episode between Duncan and his mother. Filled with unbelievable animations and mind-boggling conversations, viewers get to pick their poison. The Midnight Gospel is available to stream on Netflix一enjoy! |

ALBUM how i’m feeling now, Charli XCX
After Charlotte Aitchison’s 2019 album Charli, I couldn’t wait to see what she had in store next. In large part due to quarantine, how i’m feeling now was released early May. An album nearly entirely made at home, Charli approached this album much differently than her previous works. Open Instagram live writing sessions, at-home music videos, Zoom meetings, and moments of vulnerability shown on Twitter; fans felt more connected than ever before. The Dylan Brady produced “Claws” captures the peak feeling of love and bliss, energy proliferating from each line. “Anthems,” an electro romp that, similar to the other tracks, accurately depicts quarantine. The desperate feeling of monotony and yearning to break free with others (and dance). Other favorite tracks of mine are “forever,” “7 years,” and “party 4 u”. Charli XCX’s how i’m feeling now explores the wide array of human emotions while left in isolation. This results in a lesser-seen tenderness and vulnerability from Charli, yet she retains her eclectic and glamorous sound that I can never get enough of! |

QUOTE OF THE WEEK “Do external things distract you? Then make time for yourself to learn something worthwhile; stop letting yourself be pulled in all directions. But make sure you guard against the other kind of confusion. People who labor all their lives but have no purpose to direct every thought and impulse toward are wasting their time一even when hard at work.” - Marcus Aurelius |
