As an Executive Board that has worked toward creating a more inclusive and diverse community, we cannot stay silent in the face of the recent murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and Ahmaud Arbery, as well as all who have been and continue to be impacted by systemic racism.
To our Black sisters, we want our organizations to be a safe space for you and we recognize that is not always the case. We know that you may need support that the Panhellenic community cannot provide and want to offer the following resources:
The Panhellenic Council Executive Board commits to the following actions:
We pledge to learn more about law enforcement practices at the University of San Diego, San Diego County, and local levels
We pledge to discuss the #BlackLivesMatter movement with a family member or friend
We pledge to create a task force within the Panhellenic community to address racism and white supremacy in our community and practices
We pledge to sign the many petitions currently circulating through the media to spark change and continue to promote awareness
We recognize that we are a historically white community and we encourage you to engage in one of the above actions going forward and to explore other ways to use your advantages in the coming days and beyond. Other actions and resources are listed in the link below which was put together by members of the USD community and beyond (@kara_case4, @ioneiydaydreams, @botanicaldyke).
Please reach out if you are interested in continuing to process and discuss as a Panhellenic community, as we hope to continue this momentum into Fall semester.
With love,
The Panhellenic Council Executive Board
