Happy January to our subscribers! We hope you are having a fantastic winter season and thank you for your continued interest in our project. After a wonderful Christmas break, the team are back to focusing on the financial model with a fresh set of eyes. The costing process has been taking longer than we hoped and it takes many sets of eyes to develop costing in a way that minimises surprise expenses that so frequently derail projects. We are dedicated to getting our pricing as accurate as possible so we can bring the best value to those who want to invest in Aspen Grove. Recognising the complexity and the need for experienced eyes with close attention to detail, we have brought Louis McBride onto our team as our new Project Manager.

Louis comes to us with over 35 years experience in the building industry in both America and Canada. He graduated from the School of Environmental Design in Boulder, Colorado in 1983 and immediately started his own Design/Build firm in Northern California building custom homes and renovating existing homes. Louis moved to Rossland, BC in 2014 and became a licensed builder in Canada. Since then he has worked on several renovations and is currently building his own home, starting from the foundation right on through to the finish work. Louis believes his background, experience and keen interest in design and architecture is truly an asset to any project he is involved with.

Party like it's 1898!

Rossland’s famous Winter Carnival took place last weekend and it was a hoot. Rossland holds Canada’s Oldest Winter Carnival annually in January since 1898. It all began with Olaus Jeldness, a miner who brought his joy for skiing from Norway to Western Canada. The first carnival included events such as ski jumping and a 2000 ft vertical race, both won by Olaus himself. Since then, the carnival has developed and evolved into a four day event promising enjoyment for all ages. The post office Olaus once knew is now the site of the downtown rail jam, bobsleds speed down Spokane Street and the town comes to life with a variety show, parade and fire performances. Not to mention the Blizzard Music Festival with over 30 acts from all over Canada playing at a number of historic venues late into the night and an ice palace (named after Olaus himself) complete with bar and world famous snow sculptures.  Rossland boasts a full, vibrant event calendar with year-round festivities and promises something for everyone! If you are interested in more of Rossland’s events, check out the event calendar from Tourism Rossland.

An object lesson from Uzbekistan

As you may know, Aspen Grove is the sister company of Keefer Ecological Services (we like to joke about consulting being our day job!)  Recently, The Rossland Telegraph picked up on Mike’s trip to Uzbekistan and published an editorial discussing the environmental tragedy of the Aral Sea, the conference he attended and his proposed solutions. Please click on the link below to read more and see if you can spot our shout out.
