A New Year Full of...

....ideas, collaboration, projects, openness, and energy to take what is coming your way and create new opportunities! These are my wishes to all of you!

Happy New Year!

Let's just have a good year.

Don't forget to look up!

In December, it is so easy to surrender to the darkness of the long winter nights, and spend time looking down at your phone, your computer, your book, your cup of tea. Yet this seasonal downtime was a good reminder that if it might feel almost natural to slowdown, it also proved to me that if I want to stay creative, I can't forget to look up. Because that's where you can catch the colors, the movement, the awe and feel the magic in the air (I know there is a very rational scientific explanation for Auroras, but still, it is just out of this world...). You never quite know when that energy is going to come and if you are going to catch it. I missed many of them last month, my timing was off, and I couldn't look up. But when the energy is there you and you can finally catch it, then it just feels right. I am fully energized and ready for this busy semester! I hope you are too.

What is next?

A NEW JOB

I got a position with the Alaska Arts Education Consortium, as the coordinator for a Rural Arts Initiative project. I strongly believe in the importance of the Arts in Education, and I am very excited to help support five Alaskan School district develop their own Arts initiatives over the next three years. This quarter time, will also give me enough time and the financial support to continue my work as a puppeteer.

SCHOOL RESIDENCIES

After two years of hiatus, I am really happy to start planning residencies again. I'll be at Watershed Charter School, Fairbanks, in March during two weeks to explore shadow puppetry with K-8 students.

If you are a teacher or know a teacher/school who might be interested in a puppetry residency, where we explore story telling, send them my way. Fairbanks Art Association helps support the cost. More info about my residencies here.

ELVEL PUPPET MOVIE

Our project continues (see first newsletter). Now it is time to start carving a series of characters, like young hunters, grand-parents, a beautiful .couple and a terrible chaman. The goal is to have most of the puppets ready to get dressed in April. I'll be joining the team in Victoria, BC, during a few weeks, to help with the set, the costume and the assembly.

There is some carving time ahead!

I plan to only send you one letter twice a year, with some updates on what is happening with CHAKPuppetry! If there is something you would be particularly interested, let me know and I might integrate a new column.

For regular updates, Instagram and Facebook are still my go to platform.

You received this letter because you either signed up for it, participated in one of my workshops, or showed regular interest. You can unsubscribed at any time, of course.
