2024 Youth Leadership Development Workshop

Held on Thursday, April 25th, with roughly 102 student attendees, this annual workshop is student led by our Youth Advisory Council members. The council spent 7 months planning and organizing the daylong event for their fellow KC Metro students.

Youth Advisory Council:

  • President Caleb Truelove Rockhurst High School

  • Vice-President Evann Nelson North Kansas High School

  • Secretary K’lynn Lawrence Washington High School

  • Assistance Secretary Kalvary Riley St. Theresa’s Academy

  • Chaplain Briana Edwards Prudence Academy

  • Timekeeper ` Ariana Edwards* Prudence Academy

  • Members Malachi Cole** Mars Hill Academy

  • Leah Denson Allen Village High School

  • Noah Riley Lincoln Prep

  • Nevaeh Rosa Washington High School

We kicked off the day with an Icebreaker Bingo game to allow the students to mix and mingle and find similar interests with each other. Followed by a game of Kahootz while breakfast was being served. Next the students were allowed to attend to 3 of 5 Insight Sessions that were 45 minutes long. Session topics were:

  • Money Talks by Ms. Latasha Jacob, Ms. Angelique Cheatem, and Lorin Crenshaw

  • Mental Health by Ms. Tania Edwards

  • Study Smarter Not Harder by Ms. Satara Brown

  • Next Steps by Mr. Eric Thompson

  • Activism by Rev. Thomas TJ James

After the Insight Sessions, students were able to enjoy lunch while listening to speaker Jamie Grayson who shared his background and growth through his non-profit organization, People of All Color Succeed.  Students were then asked to complete an evaluation form and collect their T-shirts before heading back to school.  The event was from 8am-1pm.

Our t-shirt was designed by Youth Advisory Council Student member Malachi Cole and our program cover was designed by Youth Advisory Council Student member Ariana Edwards.
