Message From The Director

We are monitoring the implementation of Oregon’s 2017 Transportation Package. We are deeply involved in assisting the Oregon Port of Willamette plan development for an intermodal facility to be established in Brooks.

We have connected with federal and state officials at many levels to encourage implementation of the 2017 Transportation Package. We have also encouraged development of a vision as to the future of freight transportation where the emphasis is on truck and rail transportation, but where we understand rail passenger travel is also an important element.

We are pleased that the International Port of Coos Bay continues to work towards its goal of being a gateway port for the northwest. We very much support this goal. The success of the International Port of Coos Bay requires success in repairing and improving the Coos Bay Rail Link. This really is the only significant access for large volumes of freight to and from that port.

We are working towards a September 27 deadline for the Oregon Port of Willamette to submit to ODOT its comprehensive plan for the Brooks intermodal facility. We thank all those who have provided important information as the plan is developed.

Sincerely,

Kevin L. Mannix

Director
