Our Biweekly Newsletter -  25 August 2017

Check out what we've been up to so far this month & what's coming up next!

Thank you for visiting the shop and for bringing along your friends!

Farewell Patti!

It's Patti's last week here at the shop this week. Patti will be a Resident in the Clinical Pastoral Education  at UR/ Strong Hospital. As well as being our yarn guru and purported yarn bomber, Patti has also been Georgia's strong right hand on the Board and in the shop as we got up and running on Arnett Blvd. and then moved our whole operation to West Main St. Thank you Patti! We wish you great success in your new program and look forward to hearing about your progress when you visit SewGreen.

Patti's last day will be on Saturday this week so be sure to stop by and say hi!

To help commemorate all of Patti's hard work, we're having a 25% off yarn sale this Friday and Saturday!

Marionette Camp was a Great Success!

Our Marionette Camp wrapped up last week and ended with an entertaining puppet show!

There were so many great creations from our campers that we just had to share each one in this newsletter...

Rory was one of the first campers to finish his airplane control marionette Glovey, above left, and on the right, Kerry has made two glove control marionettes Porky, and Evil Banana.

Bridget, above left, operates her glove control marionette Private Undeerpants, and Aimee, on the right has made an airplane coltrol, two sided marionette The Secret Patroness of Iceland.

Above, we have two of our interns happily helping Brigid get her marionette wings just right!  On the left we have Summer, and on the right, we have Damya.  The internships were made possible by St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Dansville, NY.

Liam shows off his glove control marionette Timbob, above left, and to the right, Brigid has her airplane coltrol marionette Gumdrop.

Trina, above left, oporates her airplane coltrol marionette St. Mary, and above right, Peter's marionette Baby Alien, waves a big hello!

Above left, Anna demonstrates her airplane control marionette, Fearless Phoebe Froglegs, and above right, Brigid, Rory, and Kerry were preparing to perform!

Pete the cat, a bold coloured stick puppet, and Stardust the marionette, are two fun creations by Hilary, on the left, and on the right, we have some of our puppeteers!

We love the imagination that all of the campers put into their creations!  Congratulations on all your hard work.  Thank you to Mary Weeg and Elizabeth Weeg, who were the interns for the Marionette Camp, which was funded by St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Dansville, NY.  And finally a big THANK YOU to Tom Bohrer for teaching a terrific class!

Novelty Yarn Creations Update...
Marian took some of our free novelty yarn and made this bright and fun shawl, and scarf.  It's shown on this fabulous newly donated jean dressform. Thanks, Marian, for sharing your work with us!

Novelty yarn is always free at SewGreen@ROC. Pick some up today, and please, come back to show us what you create with it!

Upcoming Classes & Events

Sewing Machine 101/201
We are offering our most popular class once more in August & September: Monday, August 28, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 4 to 6 p.m. & Wednesday, September 6, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 5 to 7 p.m. Bring your own sewing machine, or learn on one of ours. Begin at the beginning, or build on skills you already possess. Either way, this is the class that will open possibilities for you and your sewing machine!

Measure Up!/Fit It!

Do you have clothing items that almost work, but not quite? Bring them in and we will assist you in getting a good fit by teaching you the art of alteration:

Tuesday, August 29, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 5 to 7 p.m. Do you know how to take your own measurements? A good set of measurements is key to buying clothes in the right size, whether you shop in stores or online. As you learn to make clothing, you’ll need the right measurements to help you select the right pattern. Our professionals will measure you correctly, and you’ll go home with an easy-to-read measurement sheet.

Sewing Machine Maintenance

Learn how to keep your sewing power tool purring along: Tuesday, September 5, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 5 to 7 p.m. We'll teach you the best ways to clean out the dust, fluff and bits of thread that clog your machine's action, and the safest ways to lubricate its parts.
