Best birthday ever

I like birthdays. They offer a definitive point in time to reflect. This month I turned 70 and had the good fortune of being able to celebrate with my extended family during our vacation in Glacier.

Well … best birthday ever. Many things made the day special (super food, games, movies, hottub baths, chilled beverages), but there were two highlights.

First, hiking with my family. We have an emerging family tradition of hiking with everyone, including grandkids. Generally I like to hike at a brisk pace, but that changes with kids. They go at their own pace with frequent stops to look at goats, bugs, colorful rocks, trees, and the fog moving through the ravines. Their curiosity is infectious. I found myself inspecting things I would normally just hike by. They asked a lot of questions and I found it a bit embarrassing to see how few questions I could answer. The grandkids helped me see “the adventure” with new eyes. For future hikes, I commit to spending more time “seeing the fog.”

The second highlight was a most thoughtful birthday video created by my MAC friends. It is special to be a member of a community of people who inspire, energize, and work for the collective good. Thanks to all. I look forward to exploring more adventures this coming year with the MAC community.

Statistically, only about 6% of those who received this email have read this far. For those of you who did, allow me to correct a mistaken impression you may have – we are talking Disney hot tub not Cancun.

Books and Ideas: Think again by Adam Grant

There are two upcoming sessions:

  •  #1 Monday July 25th at 8:00 AM Central time Info and RSVP
  • #2 Monday July 25th at  7:00 PM Central time: Info and RSVP

We discuss his ideas of The joy of being wrong, The Imposter syndrome, The psychology of constructive conflict, Collective rethinking, and more.
It is not necessary to have read the book to participate. But you might watch the video prior to the workshop (which
will be posted on the MAC Library midweek)

Think of Books and Ideas as an extended book club with two parts: (1) A video summary of the book posted prior to the workshop that members can watch at their leisure and (2) a workshop where attendees discuss related ideas to consider their relevancy for possible adoption.
