This year I decides to paint what I had in mind!
And Today I would like to tell you the story behind the painting!
Inspired by: Kichwa Indigenous People of Sarayaku, an Amazonian village in eastern Ecuador
Story:
In ancient times, humans and animals were one and the same. There was no distinction. At that time, the sisters Wituk and Manduru went through difficult times. In their quest for healing, they became something different, so the older sister became the Wituk tree to give life and energy to people who were sick or sad; while the younger sister became Manduru to give life and be able to heal.
For them, the Wituk painting is just that: a painting that give them energy, that give them life and that give them the will to go on living. It is used for people who are sick or sad. They paint themselves when they have festivities and even in situations of struggle, assemblies or meetings, because it is something that strengthens them. It is not about the aesthetic beauty of the painting and its forms, but about how it makes them feel and the energy it gives them.. from strength and wisdom, to the empowerment of the Wituk woman who transformed herself - despite all the situations she went through and the difficulties she experienced - into a healing tree, into a fruit that gives energy and gives life to people.
The application of the pigment reflects the transformation of the Wituk woman who—despite all the situations that had befallen her and the difficulties she had experienced—became a healing tree, providing fruit that gives energy and life to people.
The painting hangs in the Katapult Gallery in Basel until the end of the month!
The painting will be sold at Galerie Katapult and 20% will go directly to:
