"The Catholic school’s proper function is to create for the school community a special atmosphere animated by the Gospel spirit of freedom and charity, to help youth grow according to the new creatures they were made through baptism as they develop their own personalities, and finally to order the whole of human culture to the news of salvation so that the knowledge the students gradually acquire of the world, life and man is illumined by faith." – His Holiness Pope Paul VI (October 28, 1965) ___________________ What's New This Month? It's a luncheon on a Thursday! Our meeting in August is a break from the usual. On August 19, we're having a Thursday luncheon meeting with the Dominican sisters at the White House Board Room, followed by a program with SCA students and a fireside chat with Nancy Peterson Hearn (1951). We'll cap off the afternoon with a tour of the gorgeous Dominican campus. St. Cecilia Academy and NCBWL's affiliation goes way back as many of our notable members were SCA alum, including Aurelia Varallo Mariani (1951), whose memory we honor through the Pearls of Wisdom annual fundraiser. Also gracing the event is SCA student Naomi Nicole Mejia, one of the three recipients of the scholarship fund. We can all enjoy a summer afternoon outside while gaining a better view and understanding of one of the institutions we support. What a way to kick off our campus tour series! Ever since joining the NCBWL four years ago, I’ve wanted our organization to meet onsite at the schools we support through our annual Pearls of Wisdom fundraiser. I think that being on campus, hearing from our scholarship recipients, and learning more about each institution will be beneficial in so many ways. First and foremost, it should reinforce why we actively promote and perpetuate Catholic education for girls. Earlier this year I met with representatives from St. Cecilia Academy, Father Ryan High School, and John Paul II High School to begin the planning effort to make this a reality. I’m pleased to say our first onsite meeting will be on Thursday, August 19 from noon-1:30 p.m. at St. Cecilia Academy. The meeting at JPII is tentatively READ MORE >> |

July Meeting at Coco's Event Center Our NCBWL July 21st meeting was the largest assembly of women in a monthly meeting this year! Forty-seven women gathered at Coco’s Event Center led by President-elect Claudia Weber who filled in for Lynne Warne, who was on vacation. The much nicer, bigger venue allowed for a delightful fellowship for league members and guests and set the tone for an evening filled with laughter, wisdom and purpose. Our July speaker Mary Margaret Lambert, speaker and author of the book “Life is Too Short to Wear Beige” captivated her audience with her amazing brand of humor and valuable insight on the topic “Too old for the Rockettes, too active for the rocking chair.” The meeting also focused on the upcoming annual scholarship fundraiser Pearls of Wisdom slated for September 11 at Richland Country Club.
