October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month Breast Cancer Awareness Month began in 1985 as a partnership between the American Cancer Society and the pharmaceutical division of Imperial Chemical Industries. Betty Ford helped kick off the week-long event, as she was herself a survivor of breast cancer. Here are answers to some frequently asked questions! |

A Word from our Co-founders |

From Kathleen Cirioli Fundraising Efforts Due to COVID-19 impacting our ability to hold our fabulous Ribbons of Hope Fundraiser, we have had to get busy finding other ways to raise money because the number of women affected by breast cancer has not diminished. This means tapping into our network of individuals, organizations and businesses to partner with us by hosting an event with a portion of proceeds earmarked for Dance for the Cure. We have established a great team and we are overseeing the suggestions and efforts of two dedicated volunteers, Deanna Cannatelli and Terry Oxford and as they make connections with those who are willing to join forces with us. In addition, many of our volunteers have hosted fundraisers of their own such as a birthday celebration with donations to DFC in lieu of gifts, or a facebook fundraiser reaching out to their family and friends for a cause they strongly support. As always, we are open to new ideas and suggestions so please contact me if you have any you would like to share. |

From Joanne Liscovitz Ribbons of Hope October 22, 2020, would have marked the 15th annual Ribbons of Hope, our premier basket raffle fundraiser, but the pandemic had other plans. To say this was a devastating blow to our organization is an understatement! How would we continue our mission of financially helping breast cancer patients in our area without the funds we normally raise? We would need to repurpose our time since we “Think Pink” 24/7 during the months leading up to our event! There would be no prizes to solicit, no baskets to create, no glue dots or shrink wrap to wrestle with and no face to face creating at Basket Central. The time we spend working together and friendships we have built over the years are amazing bonuses which are sorely missed. Our basket “genies” will have to store their creative juices for October 21, 2021! We need your financial help and hope you will share our message with friends and family, honor a loved one, and donate, even if it is a token $20.20, to put a stamp on this year and help us help others in our community. |

Our Impact Since last October we have donated to 34 women who come from every situation imaginable. Some are young with no children but hoping to save their eggs for a future baby, some have infants, one has five children. Single, married, mothers and grandmothers... some taking care of autistic children of their own, grandchildren, spouses who are ill, or elderly parents. These brave women are in the fight for their life, facing multiple obstacles each day, yet they are hopeful and grateful, knowing people want to support them. That we are a small and personal organization run exclusively by volunteers and can make this kind of an impact is profound and so very special. |
