June 2020 - Newsletter #10

To all our friends, viewers and supporters welcome to our newsletter #10. Here we aim to bring you some news and tips on how you can help our extended family on the streets.

For all the new subscribers and viewers FDDR Feeding Detroit is a Private Non-Profit 501(c)3 organization that provides everyday meals, clothing and more at no cost to our less fortunate in the community and it is sustained by committed and compassionate volunteers as well as generous contributions of donors.

We do not receive any funding from the county, state, or federal governments. We are 100% funded by your donations.

Our mission is simple: to feed and help people in need on the streets of greater Detroit regardless of their circumstances.

FDDR keeps helping and serving even in these challenging times. Yes, we are making sure our staff is safe and healthy during this challenging time. A gift to this campaign will allow us to continue to serve the homeless and hungry. We are committed absolutely to keep serving those who turn to us for help, and who have no one else to care for them in this time of need.

- How can we help FDDR?

Moderator Corner

Welcome to the first issue of POD from the MOD or Moderator Corner.

Here we will discuss all things having to do with the FDDR video feed.  We encourage you to submit any questions you may have.

Trolls What are they, and why are they so much trouble?

What is a troll?

Is a person who sows discord.

When the number of viewers for the feed increases to 1000 and above, so does our chances that a few trolls will come on and try to cause confusion and strife. We are asking you to remember Please do not feed the troll. A hungry troll will eventually give up and go elsewhere.

How do you feed a troll?

Any time you answer a troll or acknowledge their presence, you are feeding a troll. We ask that if you see a troll, ignore them. Take your eyes off of them and put them back on FDDR.  Trust me when I tell you that eagle eyes are watching the feed and they stand ready to deal with trolls.

Pop Quizzzzz

Andrew Couchman:  Do you still have the couch for sale?

Dexterchisholmpeeples:  Sorry, your mother paid for it already.

Andrew Couchman is watching with you.

Dexterchisholmpeeples: oh no looks like troll school let out early

Andrew Couchman: what is this? Are the homeless selling couches?

Dexterchisholmpeeples: I think I am going to donate gas for Ziggy

Andrew Couchman: We have a report that there are bed bugs in the blankets you are handing out

Dexterchisholmpeeples: Sits on hands to prevent typing and directs focus on what Ziggy is doing.

Everyone should have passed the pop quiz. All kidding aside, I hope I have impressed on you how important it is to ignore trolls.

FDDR is all about love and peace and trolls seek to interfere with that.

Sincerely,

Rhittney aka Dexter

Letters from our viewers

75 PB&J’s. That was a lot of sandwiches. It took us an hour to make all of them, but it wasn’t really hard. I knew it was going to a good cause, so I just went with what my parents said.

That was two and a half years ago. Now, they have over 1,000 people watching, and 150 meals to hand out each day. I’m happy to say I was there near their start. The first time I saw them in person I was in an Ikea parking lot, and they were so happy that we came to give them the stuff to cram into their tiny car.

Everyone talks about these terrible parts of Detroit like that’s all Detroit is. Detroit, as I’ve experienced, is beautifully diverse.

There are so many different wonderful places to discover, and even though I’ve been to a lot of different parts of Detroit, I still haven’t seen all of it. Mexicantown is so pretty with all of its colors, the downtown area has a bunch of nice hangout spots, and what makes it even better is there’s a Whole Foods there. Even though this city has it’s rough edges, it’ll always be one of endless diversity.

A sad turn of events was the car crash. Though it wasn’t too extreme, they lost their car. My family had the privilege of taking them in our car, and I may or may not have touched the phone. I learned not to do that shortly afterward.

I sang on the stream, had fun with some of the locals, such as Sunn Anderson, (I own two of his original artworks!) helped pass out food, visited the “Famous Tom” before he was relocated, and even got to tour his hand-crafted home on more than one occasion, plus we saw Lucy guarding Clark Park. I had a great time.

Then, they got a bus. A bus. From riding in strangers’ cars, to a giant bus. Ziggy was a huge upgrade for them. Now, they feed hundreds, carry tons of supplies and have people ride with them. I, again, had the privilege of hanging out with Mat and Rose on the bus, and I sang a few more songs. Now, I shouldn’t spoil too much, but I am coming back to sing more, and I might bring a few people…

Overall, this is a great cause, and I fully support Mat and Rose especially in this time of crisis, and I fully wish them the best.

I am Cameron Munholland, 14 years old, from Bay City, MI, and I support FDDR in all their efforts.
