Volunteer Opportunities - We Need Your Help!

Please consider volunteering for one of the following positions for the 24-25 season. These events cannot continue without your help!

2025 Spring Art Show Chairs

If you’d like an opportunity to get more involved with LAA, this is a great way to meet many of our members and help facilitate one of the more fun annual events on the island!

A number of our Committee Chairs are returning to their positions so your efforts would be mostly to coordinate what’s going on leading up to the event and for the set up the day before and day-of event logistics. Next year set up is on Monday April 14th and the show is on Tuesday evening April 15th.

LAA Workshops Chair(s)

The LAA offers workshops our members in several mediums. One or two people act as chair(s) of this process and find instructors, book the venue, advertise the workshops, process registrations, and provide necessary information to both instructors and attendees.

Workshops generally run from October to May. We have a binder detailing processes as well as a list of possible instructors to kick start your efforts.

ARTIST OF THE MONTH

COCKTAIL RECEPTION DATE CHANGED TO
AUGUST 15th

The Palmetto Club will be closed for cleaning August 4th through the 12th. There will be NO MEMBER INTAKE for August as the July wall will stay up. However, there will be a reception on Thursday, August 15th highlighting our July members' display, our AOM case featuring Margie Sone's jewelry and new additions from our wood artisans.

ATTENTION LAA WATERCOLOR ARTISTS!

Longtime LAA member and admired watercolor artist Barby Townsend, sadly, is no longer painting. Her husband Al asked if the LAA might help to retire her studio, and the LAA Board agreed that this could be an opportunity to raise funds for the LAA/PDT grants for education.

On Monday, October 14th from 10:00am ‘til Noon, LAA Watercolor Artists are invited to # 6 Pepper Bush Circle to participate in this initiative.

Offered at very modest prices will be paints, brushes, paper, books - as well as studio equipment such as tables, lighting and storage. In addition, there will be paintings by Barby - some framed; some unfinished…

Be assured, Barby’s family members have taken everything important to them and they are thrilled that others will benefit from what remains. We suggest you arrive by golf cart - or carpool. This initial offering is limited to LAA Watercolor artists. Anything left over will be available at the first LAA Membership Meeting on Tuesday, October 15th.

Artist of the Month News

There will be NO MEMBER INTAKE this month as the Palmetto Club is closed from the 4th through the 12th. Don't miss the rescheduled AOM Reception on Thursday, August 15th!

Member Acknowledgements

CONGRATULATIONS to Debbie Redden, whose painting "The Agnes Marie", won the Award of Merit in the NJ Watercolor 2024 Annual Signature Members Exhibition. It will be on display from July 12 - August 13.

• Due to the very positive response to our 1st Holiday Market, it is returning in the Fall! SAVE THE DATE: Wednesday, November 20th. This is a great opportunity to sell your art right before the holidays! More info to follow as we get closer to the event.

   

• Our VIRTUAL GALLERY on Facebook will offer a $50 monthly cash prize, now in the form of a RANDOM GIVEAWAY. A winner will be chosen using Google's Random Generator and announced on the LAA Challenge page. Those members posting 2 pieces per month (max allowed) will have double the chance of winning. And remember - each piece you post is being seen by over 535 artists and art appreciators!
