FROM THE BOUNDARY EDGE

All The Latest News From The Applegarth

Welcome to the winter edition of the Earby CC newsletter with all the latest information from The Applegarth.

We'd like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and all the best for 2024 and we look forward to seeing you all during the season.

Since the season finished in the middle of September plenty of work has been going on in the background in order to get ready for 2024 details of which can be found below

Club Officials & Committee Changes

As we look forward to the new season we are delighted to announce that Stephen Hipgrave has accepted the committee's invite to be the new president of the club. Taking over from Michael Chapple who unfortunately passed away in August last year Stephen was the unanimous choice to fulfil the role as he enters his 50th year of playing senior cricket after making his debut as a 13 year old in 1974.

We would also like to thank Kimberley Chapman for all her hard work, support and dedication as Safeguarding Officer during the past 6 years. Kimberley has now stepped down as Safeguarding Officer and as a result both Gareth McCabe and Lois Hipgrave will take over as Safeguarding Officers for the 2024 season.

In order to progress the cricket side of the club we are delighted to announce that Kevin Jelley will be taking up the role of Senior Cricket Manger. Kevin's role will be to assist in all things relating to senior cricket including training, selection and on match days. Kevin has a wealth of experience in and around the Ribblesdale League and we hope that he will be a big help to all the senior captains, professional, overseas amateur and players.

Finally we'd like to announce that Kevin Holme has taken over from Richard Craddock as Junior Co-Ordinator. Many thanks to Richard for all his hard word, drive and dedication in being in charge of the junior section whilst also managing the under 13's and the success achieved by the junior teams is highlighted by the number of senior players who have come through the junior ranks.

We would like to wish Stephen, Gareth, Lois, Kevin and Kevin all the best in their new roles

We are delighted to announce the relaunch of our monthly fundraising draw with the renamed 100 Club which will commence in January to replace the 150 Club which stopped last year.

The 100 Club is an important source of income for the club and it's a great way for players, members, supporters and the local of community of Earby and West Craven to support us whilst also having the chance to win £100 each month.

- 100 Numbers

- Entry £5 a month

- £100 to the winner each month

- Christmas draw in December of £500 plus the normal monthly draw

2024 Professional - Raveen Yasas

We are delighted to announce the signing of Sri Lankan Raveen Yasas as professional for the 2024 season.

Raveen is a left handed top order batter and slow left arm orthodox bowler who currently plays for Chilaw Marians back in Sri Lanka.

Raveen is a batting all rounder who averages over 26 in List A cricket and over 37 in the 1st class arena

This will be Raveen's first experience of league cricket in the UK but he comes highly recommended by Colne's professional Geeth Kumara and his team mate back in Sri Lanka and Great Harwood's current pro Thikshila De Silva

Raveen will be the clubs third Sri Lankan professional following in the footsteps of Ashen Bandara in 2019 and Prasansana Jayamanne in 2021

All his stats can be viewed at www.espncricinfo.com/cricketers/raveen-yasas-1056495

We look forward to welcoming Raveen to The Applegarth next year and many thanks to Gary Hunt at CricIntro for all his help in getting the deal finalised

2024 Overseas Amateur - Stefan Breuninger

We are delighted to announce the signing of Stefan Breuninger as our Overseas Amateur for the 2024 North West Cricket League Season.

Stefan is a right handed top order batter and right arm medium fast seam bowler from Cape Town in South Africa and he currently plays for Durbanville Cricket Club. He has also previously represented Peninsula Patriots in the Cape Town Premier League (CPL) as well as Paarl Boys High First XI whilst at school.

In 2023 Stefan travelled up to Scotland and played for Irvine Cricket Club in the Western District Cricket Union where he scored 990 runs in all competitions at an average of 41.25 with a top score of 119 not out as well as taking 31 wickets at an average of 18.58 with a best of 5/15.

We look forward to welcoming Stefan to the Applegarth in April and hope he has a successful season with us.
