Ahead in the Count

a monthly newsletter for independent school leaders

Work

This edition of Ahead in the Count is about the nature of work in independent schools, both the enduring qualities of workplace culture that underlie excellence in independent schools and the contemporary challenges of retaining and attracting great educators. As I mention in the first piece, this writing required some personal reckoning with my attitudes about work that's long overdue and without which these pieces would mostly be a lot of crabby nostalgia. I think we're at a pretty important crossroads with what work will look like for independent school faculty and staff in the future and poised to further distinguish our schools, as we did through the pandemic, as models for what great schools can do.
