Breakfast and Lunch

King of Cafe Kumbuk's breakfast menu has to be the Big Brekkie. With sausages, bacon, eggs, tomato, mushrooms, baked beans, greens...here's no room for any toast!  It's available all day from 09.30am and there is a vegan option too.

Weekends are for brunching, so some people say, and now there's another one to choose from. Life's Good Kitchen have a weekend a la carte brunch menu with dishes such as eggs benedict with bacon, tomato and mushrooms. Another reason to look forward to weekends!

Tango's Restaurant in Boralesgamuwa have introduced a budget lunch buffet priced at just Rs350 per person. It's available every day from 11.30am to 3.30pm.

The Karnivore in Nawala offer a selection of Executive Lunch packs available for takeaway or delivery. There's five options to choose from; vegetable or egg fried rice priced at Rs450, chicken fried rice for Rs500, pork fried rice for Rs550 and finally beef fried rice for Rs650.

Instead of a buffet, how about a Thali? The Mandarina now offers a traditional Indian Thali lunch daily from 12.00pm to 3.00pm.

High Tea and Dinner:

Here's another high deal that we found. Cafe97 have a high tea with sandwiches, skewers, tartlets and much more. It's available any day, by preorder, but for a minimum of five people so get some friends together! It's priced at Rs1650 per person.

The Mandarina high tea is now available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. It's a buffet and is available from 3.00pm to 5.30pm and is priced at Rs1,200 per person.

Welcome back to Fire and Ice Pizzeria who have just reopened after a break of several months. They are in a new location in Borella, and are open from 4pm to 10.30pm Tuesday to Friday and 12.00pm to 10.30pm at weekends. Closed Mondays.

This Saturday, El Toro Loco will be taking over at The Travelling Bruncher, on the Green Lanka Towers rooftop from 4,30pm. Head up there and enjoy their range of fusion tacos, tortillas and more.

There's another buy one, get one free deal at Indian Summer. The current deal is good until 21 February and includes chicken lollipop, tandoori chicken, Chettinad biriyani and gajar halwa. . 

Happy Hours & Ladies' Night

Have you visited Allstar recently? They are showing several sporting events live and they often have bands on Thursdays or Fridays. And there's another reason: they have a Happy Hour from 6pm to 7pm from Sunday to Thursday, with buy one, get one free deals on selected drinks.

The Joint introduced a happy hour as a special offer for January but have extended it through February. From Sunday to Thursday you can enjoy 50% off selected cocktails, from 5pm to 7pm.

Most people will have heard of Firebeach, overlooking the sea at the Galle Face Hotel, with food, drinks and music. Did you know that they have a ladies' night? Well, they do, it's called Diva Night and it's on Wednesdays but is a bit different. It's all about daiquiris. From 7pm to 8pm, ladies get freeflow daiquiris and from 8pm to 9pm it's buy one get one free. There's a nice selection of daiquiris to choose from - strawberry of course, but also pineapple, passion, mint and some others. Tempted?  Let us know how they are!

Live Music and DJs

Festival season seems to be upon us; there's quite a few this month and there's a couple coming up in the week ahead.

On Sunday 13 February at Cinnamon Grand there's a "Sunday Sundown Valentine" with four artists performing: Ravin, Corrine, Chithral and Redeemers. Doors open 6.30pm.

Two days later, on 15 February, it's "A Night to Remember" at Colombar with two bands: Warehouse Project and Kingdom, with Mangala Perera, Falan Andrea and Mihindu Ariyaratne. Doors open 6.30pm.

Back to regular gigs and on Thursday this week you'll find Magic Box Mixup at The Joint, Miracle at Curve and Ishini & The Branch at Taphouse.

On Friday you can catch Legato at Darley Road, Luminosity at Asylum, Cold Sweat at SunsetBlu and Kingdom at Taphouse.

On Saturday The Notion will be at Taphouse, Magic Box Mixup will be at Re.pub.lk and OiC at SunsetBlu.

For music from the decks, you'll find "Wild, Wild Love" at Ask for Fern on Thursday with four DJs: Adi, StarburnX, Moonkillexx and The Music Director; that sounds like a good night!

On Friday, Shrimp Daddy's becomes Disco Shrimp with DJs Mango Boom and Kevin Fernando. Alternatively at the Love Bar, it's "Love Struck" with DJs Lunatics, Dirty Dzn, Trev D and Neco.

On Saturday you'll want to be at Lavix for "Totem Glow" with a total of six DJs on stage : Dr Green, Ace, Fernando, The Music Director, Mohith and Yarrick.

Other Events

There's a lot of Valentines Events building over the weekend. You'll find them listed on a separate page HERE.

Thursday Night there's a new quiz night at Kami Maki starting at 6.30pm which we hope will become a regular one.

On Friday, the Social Networking Evening is on at the Hilton Residences from 6.30pm, a good way to meet people.

Also on Friday there's an Open Mic night at Drunk Panda, from 7.30pm, with The Man Behind the Guitar.

Saturday is Market Day with several markets offering food, crafts, gifts and more, from local businesses. Once to check out this Saturday is The Island Market, Valentine's Edition. They want to encourage gifts not just for your spouse, boy/girlfriend, SO etc but for someone else special: Parent, child, sibling, a mentor. It's a nice idea; appreciate someone else, and it means singles can join in for Valentines too!

Speaking of Singles, there's a singles night at Bakes By Bella on Saturday from 7pm. Free for ladies, Rs1000 for men and you must book in advance.

Also on Saturday, El Toro Loco is taking over at The Travelling Bruncher on the GreenLanka Towers Rooftop, with a popup offering fusion tacos, burritos and more, from 4.30pm.

On Sunday you'll all be preparing for Valentines, wrapping the gifts, sampling the chocolates....?  Or going to the rooftop Pool Party at ME Colombo, starting at 11am.

If your pool body or beach body isn't quite ready, you could try joining Niki and Shenuka for their fitness workout at Nuga Rosmead every weekday morning at 8.30.  It won't give you your beach body by Saturday, but it's the first step!
