Welcome to this week's update on Colombo's meal deals, food delivery and events. Well this week has been a bit quieter again, with the two holidays, but the weekend is shaping up to be quite busy. Some of the regular Friday and Saturday lunches and dinners have restarted, as well as a couple of Sunday brunches. A second weekend market is also back. There's also more happy hours to choose from and a bit more music as well. We are coming across an ever increasing number of webinars and virtual events, on a wide range of subjects from developing you focus, or time management, to cookery, make-up and travel. As in-person events pick up we will of course list those but we will continue to list some interesting virtual events too. Let us know which ones are of most interest, which you'd like to see! Breakfast and Lunch We found another all day breakfast, this one at &Co, at The Steuart for dine-in or delivery. It's only available from 10.30am but until 9.30pm so perfect for the late, or very late, risers. You want your breakfast a bit earlier? Flow at the Hilton Residences is open from 6.30am. On weekdays they offer an a la carte breakfast until 10.00am, but on weekends it's a full buffet until 11.00am. An option for a casual, grazing breakfast is the new Breakfast Platter from Platter Me. They'll create it in discussion with you and deliver it, after which it's up to you to choose where and when you enjoy it. On to brunches proper, and those who enjoy a good Sunday Brunch will be glad to hear that The Cinnamon Grand have restarted Sunday Brunch at Plates. This is available from 11.00am to 3.00pm on Sundays. Water's Edge have also restarted their Sunday Brunch at Pranzo restaurant, on Sundays from 11.30am to 2.30pm. This offers outdoor dining with a nice view over the lake. For Sunday Lunch, The Cinnamon Grand also offer an Asian Seafood Buffet at the renown Lagoon restaurant. Or, if you're more of a "Sunday Roast" person, then you can choose from the Sunday Carvery at Cheers Pub at the Cinnamon Grand, or the Sunday Roast at The Steuart with a selection of roast meats - and a 15% discount for home delivery. Cuisine Colombo also do a selection of roasts, including beef, lamb or a Crackling Pork Roast for dine in or delivery. How about something simpler, and on weekdays? OK. Momo have a Kesel Kole Bath lunch with three curries and lots of accompaniments starting from Rs350 for fish, Rs375 for chicken and Rs400 for pork, Big Plate also have rice or noodle dishes starting from Rs340 for vegetable or Rs540 for chicken, as well as a range of Chinese or Indian dishes, kottu, burgers, shawarma and more. High Tea and Dinner: It's nice to see some High Tea's available for dine-in again. One of the most recent is the The Four Leafed Clover who have reopened and are offering their High Tea platter with a nice assortment of savoury and sweet treats. Water's Edge, too, have relaunched their Weekend High Tea Buffet, available in the Lounge on Saturday and Sunday from 3.00pm to 6.00pm. Ramen Misoya have reopened for dine-in, as well as delivery. Located at Colombo Racecourse, they offer a wide range of Japanese Ramen bowls as well as side dishes and a selection of rice dishes. Clements Restaurant in Wattala is also open again and is enticing diners with a deal, spend Rs2500 for dine-in and get 25% off the bill, for the rest of the month. There's some weekly dinner buffets restarted too. If you enjoy a dinner buffet, then read on! On Friday, you can enjoy Festa Italiana, an Italian buffet at The Hilton Residences' Flow restaurant from 7.00pm until 10.30pm. Alternatively if you prefer an Indian Moghal Dinner Buffet, you can visit Alhambra restaurant at the Ramada from 7.00pm to 11.00pm. On Saturdays it's back to Flow at the Hilton Residences for an International Buffet featuring a range of Japanese Indian, Chinese, Western and Sri Lankan food from 7.00pm to 10.30pm. | | |

Happy Hours & Ladies' Night There's a few more happy hours restarted over the past week, despite the midweek break. Kava Island Bar is offering happy hour deals daily from 5pm to 7pm on selected drinks. Curve Bar has also restarted its happy hours offering buy one, get one free off selected cocktails from 5pm to 8pm, Sundays to Thursdays. The Lobby Bar at the Galadari has a daily happy hour from 6.00pm to 8.00pm, offering 50% off an extensive selection of beers, shots and cocktails. There's also happy hours available, as well as great DJ music, at Ask for Fern and The Chiller Room on Wednesdays from 6pm to 8pm and from Thursday to Saturday from 7pm to 10pm with selected drinks offered buy one, get one free. Ask for Fern and the Chiller Room also have a "power hour" for ladies with selected drinks free from 10pm to 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays and from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesdays. Live Music and DJs Music is coming back, though a little intermittent this week. The Redeemers are on at the Curve Bar twice this week; on Thursday as an acoustic, unplugged set up and on Friday with the full band and performance, both starting at 7pm. This week we also see the return of "Feel Good Friday" at Asylum, with live music. This Friday we can enjoy the smooth sounds of Silk, from 7pm. It's great to see Drunk Panda on the gig diary again this Friday as they host an acoustic session by Barstool Prophecy starting at 7pm. Also on Friday Dillon makes a welcome return to Playtrix for the evening, starting at 8pm, while Shafi and Jana will be playing at the Cinnamon Grand Lobby Bar from 7pm to 11pm. The Curve Bar is busy again on Saturday as Black will be playing there from 8pm. Three gigs in three days, the Curve is truly back this weekend! It's nice to see that music livestreams are still continuing as on Sunday evening from 6.30pm there will be a Soundroom Session livestream featuring The Soul. As for DJ sounds, Fern and The Chiller Room are open with DJ Dirty Dzn on the decks on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday Nights, with happy hours and power hours too. On Saturday, DJ Izzy will be at Kurumbar for Urban Saturdays, from 6pm with a happy hour from 6pm to 8pm. Looking ahead to next weekend and Halloween, there's a couple of parties to plan for. On Saturday 30 October there will be a Squid Game theme at The Love Bar, where they say that the only way out is to win the games. That same night, RnB will be hosting Soul Train, with soul, funk and disco from the 70s to the 90s, with music from the band Miracle and DJs Moonkille XX and Capital C. | | |

Other Events These past weeks we've focused on webinars and virtual workshops from around the world; it's so good to have some real, live events to write about this week - only a few, but it's a start! First, The Good Market is back at Colombo Race Course on Saturday from 9am to 5pm, with a collection of stalls selling handicrafts, foods, accessories and more from local small businesses. This weekend sees the return of the CAN Market at One Galle Face, on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 10pm, where similarly handicrafts, foods, gifts and more from over 70 local entrepreneurs and small businesses are available for sale. Onto the virtual events and there's a few environmental talks this week. Thursday at 6pm there's a WNPS talk on the "Monkey Kingdom in Peril" and at 9.30pm there's an international seminar on Renewable Energy at 9.30pm. On Saturday at 4,30pm there's an FEO talk on the case for "Banning Microplastics for Cleaner Seas". There's a couple of personal development workshops of interest. On Thursday at 8.30pm you can hear how to "Envision the Life you Want", and how to create a life vision. This is at 8.30. Do you feel that you have a lot of clutter, of stuff you've been collecting for years? Well, on Saturday at 1.30pm you can join the "7 Day Decluttering Challenge", to create a tidier and more organised home. We found a couple of cookery classes of interest. On Thursday at 9.30pm you can enjoy virtual cooking and travel from Italy, and on Sunday at 4,30 you can join a live online class to learn some Jamaican cooking. Register in advance to get the list of ingredients that you'll need. These are just a selection of the events that we have listed. Looking Ahead With places opening up again and live music and happy hours restarting, it feels so good to be out and about after so long!
