When day comes we step out of the shade,
aflame and unafraid,
the new dawn blooms as we free it.
For there is always light,
if only we're brave enough to see it.
If only we're brave enough to be it.
– Amanda Gorman, The Hill We Climb
We are bombarded with words; texts, tweets, banners, titles, ads and emails on a daily basis. Our 21st century has made us acutely aware of the power that words wield. They can perform miracles but they can also cause things to go horribly wrong. Social media corporates are increasingly pressured into taking firm steps against wrongdoers – with the current feeling being that “if it isn’t right to say it in public, then it isn’t right to say it on social media”.
Studies show that the language we speak also defines the way we think: (https://www.ted.com/talks/lera_boroditsky_how_language_shapes_the_way_we_think?language=en ).
In business, using the “right” word is crucial. Whether it is converting overly-technical jargonese into plain language or simply editing a document – removing those oh so embarrassing typos and spelling mistakes. We all remember Covfefe…!
The correct and appropriate translation of documents is also fundamental to the success of a business project. This is why at Leading Language, we have resisted the pressure of using software generated translations and prefer to rely on our team of experienced translators.
And last but certainly not least, presentation skills are essential, especially in our new virtual meeting business world. If any of you were fortunate enough to watch the young American poet laureate, Amanda Gorman at the American Presidential inauguration, you would have seen one of the most beautifully and skilfully delivered presentations I have witnessed recently.
At Leading Language, we can help you choose the right words. After all, our motto is Communication Excellence. Let us know how we can assist you to make words matter.
Take care and stay safe,
Karen
