Family In Need...Outreach Committee Update As mentioned at the December General Meeting, the Outreach Committee is in the process of working with other Island charities and groups to help a family of six who lost everything in a fire just before Thanksgiving. While the instinct is to rush out and buy Christmas gifts for the four children and their parents, we considered the following and developed a plan: - The family is living temporarily in a very tiny one-bedroom trailer.
- Other agency assistance includes the following:
- FISH has placed the family in their Christmas Basket Brigade for toys
- CLAM contributed Walmart gift cards
- Beacon of Hope has children's clothing and other merchandise
- PICC is offering to donate anything that they can use
- PI Kiwanis will give $800 toward rent in a more permanent home next month
- PI Food Pantry is providing a Christmas meal and everyday groceries.
- Our first focus: The husband is a carpenter who lost most of his tools. We will contribute Home Depot cards and a member has offered her late husband's tools.
- Our second focus will be the wife's wish for the basics: toilet paper, paper towels, baby wipes, size 5 diapers, children's Tylenol (for ages 2-11) and bottled water. We will deliver two installments - one before Christmas and one between Christmas and New Year's. The drop off location is Traders Hitching Post in Matlacha. Please deliver donations of these items as soon as possible.
There will be more information in the next Herald. Grateful Genie for the Outreach Committee 239-283-0349 |
