May Newsletter

Hey, church communication leaders!

We cannot believe that we are a few weeks away from Camp Meeting at Lake Junaluska! It seems like yesterday that we were counting down the New Year. We cannot wait to see you all there.

📸 Camp Meeting Photo Scavenger Hunt 📸

A Few Categories:

  • You and a youth attendee

  • You and your pastor

  • you eating something healthy

  • you studying

  • you praying in/with a group

  • you hiking

  • you camping

  • you at Lake Junaluska

This idea came to us via one of our local church communication leaders: Huguet Valladares. We are having a photo scavenger hunt at Lake Junaluska Camp Meeting. We will be featuring photos in the Camp Meeting Today, the Carolina Action blog, and on the Conference Facebook page. Use the hashtag: #LJCM2023 for us to easily find your photos. Remember the photos have to be taken that week. We will be posting that day's specific category by 9am on the Conference Facebook page and sending a notification out via the Conference mobile app, but any of the above categories can be submitted at any time that week.

The Church Website Organization Checklist

From our favorite Church Communication YouTuber: Brady Shearer

"Browsing a church website shouldn't be a chore - not if it's well organized at least. So together we’re going to declutter and organize your church’s website using what I call The Kitchen Principle and 5 easy checklist items. And by the end of this video, your website is going to feel refreshed and rejuvenated - plus, I've put the checklist into a handy downloadable PDF. Let's dive in."

*Focusing on Discipling*

During this quinquennium, one of the primary goals of the Administration is to help our churches prioritize discipleship. It is not uncommon for individuals to join our churches, only to leave later on not because they do not believe in the Adventist message, but due to a lack of connection. While we often hear that "our church is the friendliest church," it is essential to consider retention and pew numbers to assess how effective our efforts truly are.

As a Conference office family, we are collectively studying the Adventist Discipleship Handbook. We also encourage the leadership teams of all our churches, including elders, deacons,

Sabbath School leaders, praise team members, and communication leaders, to join us in studying this handbook together. By focusing on discipleship, we can engage all of our members, both new and seasoned, and work together to build stronger, more connected communities.
