Time's Ticking on this Exhibition

Hi Everyone,

No one can stop time from passing by, but as an artist I am able to capture a moment in an enduring physical form. And in this latest exhibition by fine artists at the Art Gallery of Burlington, we explore various aspects of time (present, past, seasons, changes over time, and how time is measured) through our choices of subjects. Click on the image below to see the wide range of evocative pieces in the online exhibition, or go to this link:

I am providing here a detail of my painting. See the full image in the exhibition or on my website. Since many of my recent works depicted landscapes and architecture, for this piece I wanted to choose something I had never painted before…

Can you guess what it is?

After taking time to seriously think it over and look through my photos, I focused on my astounding and otherworldly experience of seeing the stalactites and stalagmites in the Cave of Clamouse, in Southern France. I had written a blog post with pictures of it here: Excursion à la Grotte de Clamouse.

It was fascinating how the trickling of water had formed these enormous columns over the course of many millennia. My time spent painting them is minuscule compared to this natural phenomenon, but I see a similarity to my process. Using the traditional oil glazing technique, I applied thin layer upon layer, each time allowing the paint to dry. Working on it every few days on average, I completed it after two months.

I'm writing this announcement on a personal milestone, a quarter century, so it's a meaningful moment for me. Time to wrap this up and celebrate!
