Dear members of the NAB community, What a first year 2021 has been! We look back at a promising start of our mission. Despite the COVID-19 measures marking the beginning and the end of 2021, we have been able to regularly engage with a growing group of stakeholders (including all our readers), inspire many organisations and individuals to look at impact investing as a serious option and catalyse new solutions with your help and involvement. To date, 23 organisations form the NAB community, as founding members and as strategic or ecosystem partners: leaders who together will be leading the way to scaling up the impact investing sector in the Netherlands. In 2022 we will keep furthering our mission, using the feedback of the community collected during the preparation of the State of the Dutch impact investing ecosystem report. We will continue engaging increasingly with the public sector to bring impact at the heart of their policies, challenging and inspiring the financial sector to develop their impact investing strategies, and catalysing the doers to develop large-scale solutions to the barriers we have identified. We are very grateful for your support, and would like to extend our special thanks to the NAB Board and their team members who have made a successful start of the NAB possible: Willemijn Verloop (Rubio Impact Ventures), Linda Broekhuizen, Yvonne Bakkum and Jeroen Harteveld (FMO), Jack Julicher, Raquel Criado Larrea and Jos Gijsbers (a.s.r.), Hadewych Kuiper (Triodos Investment Management), Tera Terpstra (Wire Group) and Marnix Mulder (Triple Jump). We wish you and your loved ones a wonderful festive season and an impactful and collaborative New Year!!!" - Margarida, Simona, and Laure |

DRIVING REAL IMPACT IN 2021 |

HOW WILL WE DRIVE REAL IMPACT IN 2022? |

ENGAGING WITH THE PUBLIC SECTOR |
The G7 Impact Task Force recently published its recommendations in a report. This publication prepared with the contributions of more than 120 practitioners shines a light on key issues and actions underway around the world to place impact at the heart of investment and business decisions. It demonstrates the possibilities and makes the case for initiatives that mobilise capital and direct it where it needs to go. In the Netherlands, we want to increase the awareness in the Dutch public sector of the immense possibilities offered by impact investing to mobilise private capital for impact. During the first and second quarters of 2022, the NAB will organise a series of engagements with various stakeholders of the Dutch public sector, to share the recommendations of the G7 report as well as the NAB/KPMG report on the State of the Dutch impact investing ecosystem. |

LAUNCHING: CAPITAL REQUIREMENTS WORKING GROUP |
“If we can demonstrate that capital charges are not in line with capital risk. Maybe we can make a change.” – Yvonne Bakkum, FMO One of the biggest barriers to increasing the scale of impact investing in portfolios of institutional investors is the level of required capital charge. Impact investments are often earlier-stage, illiquid or in emerging markets. This new working group will focus on lowering capital requirements in illiquid and higher capital charge impact investments under Basel IV, Solvency II and VEV. This could enable the increase of the scale of impact investing by removing regulatory barriers for institutional investors, and hopefully make a change. If you or your organisation would like to participate in this working group, please message us at contact@nabimpactinvesting.nl. |

CONNECTING STAKEHOLDERS WITH THE DIGITAL AGRI HUB |

In 2022, the NAB will continue working with investors on the Digital Agri Hub project, in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, FCDO, USAID, Grameen Foundation, Wageningen University & Research and GSMA. On the 25th of January, we will host a two hours interactive webinar facilitating impact investors' engagement to foster sustainable, inclusive, and climate-resilient agriculture in Low- and Middle-Income Countries. During this event, seasoned investors will discuss ways to accelerate the private investments in digital solutions, with two deep-dive sessions on investing in Digital Climate Advisory Services and Smart Farming. |

MAPPING THE DUTCH IMPACT INVESTING SECTOR |
The year 2022 will start big! Our first publication will be the report on the State of the Dutch impact investing ecosystem expected for the end of January. This report will analyse the challenges and the needs of the impact investing sector, allowing us to fine-tune future NAB working groups and develop potential new projects. The NAB will host a launching event in the afternoon of February 3rd, 2022, so save the date! |
The results of the mapping and the conclusions from the G7 report show a clear need for more action. Hence, besides our current active working groups and the launch of the capital requirements working group, the NAB wants to do more. Therefore, we are preparing another working group on Blended Finance (more details will follow). This is also a call to our community to come forward. Let us know if you are interested in joining our working groups or developing one with us. |
