July 2019 NEWSLETTER

Check out what we've been up to!

Hi Wagashilovers!

Hope you are all keeping warm and toasty as we move deep into Winter! We're moving to a bi-monthly newsletter so we have a lot to share since May!

We had an amazing day at the Heide Makers Market in Bulleen, a market that we've been very eager to attend for a long time! It was so great to see customers from the region, along with some wonderful familiar faces including our good friend Dianne of Dianne Collins Ceramics. And we don't think there could be a better location for a market - the incredible Heide Museum is a wonderful backdrop for the talented artisans showcasing their wares. We will be back there again in October!

The Box Hill Japan Festival 2019 has been our biggest event of the year so far, massive thank you to the organisers and volunteers for putting on this fantastic cultural experience! We are so grateful to everyone who attended, and we love that more and more people want to experience the joys of wagashi. It was also great to see all the wonderful stallholders including Mountain Yuzu, Cha Haus, and Baker Bears. Special thank you to Hinako-chan who helped us out on the day.

We had the opportunity to cater to the Chado Urasenke Annual Tea Gathering, which was an incredibly special learning experience! We also so proud to have supported Huntingdale Primary School, a bilingual Japanese and English school, for their fundraising Family Fun Day. Read on for more info!

As always, please don't hesitate to drop us an email or DM on FB or Insta, about things you would like to see more of and we will try to include them in our updates. We love hearing from you!

Yours, Minnie

Chado Urasenke Annual Tea Gathering

What a wonderful challenge it was to develop the perfect wagashi for one of the most prestigious tea ceremony events in Australia!

The theme of this year's gathering was "first snow", and we worked very closely with the Association's tea masters to make this sweet, made of mochi, red adzuki bean and covered by dried mochi flakes.

We are incredibly humbled by the positive feedback about our wagashi from attendees and the organisers!

Thank you to the Association for choosing MinnieSweets for their event! We are definitely looking forward to the next challenge.

Heide Makers Market

Can't ask for a better location for a market than at the grounds of the Heide Museum of Modern Art in Bulleen!

Despite the cold and wet weather, the turn out from our customers was wonderful.

We brought our Choco-Orange flavour, made with home made organic orange marmalade, and our Rum Raisin flavour, along with all the favourites!

We will absolutely be back in October so keep an eye out for the confirmed date soon.

Box Hill Japan Festival 2019

Attending this festival was a highlight in 2018, so we were so happy to be back this year. The organising committee and volunteers do such an amazing job running the festival!

We were also pleased to have the help of Hinako on the day, who helped manage the queue by offering information about our products. We do hope everyone who came enjoyed the taste of Japanese culture and life, and also became new fans of wagashi!

Our seasonal products Chestnuts Daifuku & Kuri-Kinton were very popular!

If you haven't been before, we highly recommend keeping an eye out for next year's event.

Product spotlight: Choco-orange Momiji

It’s always nice to be back to Hank Marvin Market Alma Park. The weather was cold and cloudy as the first day of winter!

Minnie made Momiji (Japanese Maple) designed Nerikiri, using a different technique. This Choco-Orange flavour was put in homemade orange marmalade.

Part of our purpose is to bring joy through our wagashi, so it was so gratifying that this flavour connected to a childhood memory of one of our customers! We think choco-orange is a real winner!

On a side note, we do wish HMM all the best with securing a new location for Sundays. We know Sandringham and Brighton will miss them!

Supporting Huntingdale Primary

There's no better way to bring joy through wagashi than by supporting children's education. While we love creating new fans of our handmade sweets, it's also about giving back and supporting schools like Huntingdale Primary with their Family Fun Day fundraising event! We were able to donate a portion of our sales to the school to help with their bilingual program.  Thank you to Yayoi-san and the team for a fantastic day that our family also enjoyed!

Also, if you couldn't make it, check out this great little video made by our good friend Christian!

Where will we be next?
