Picture this:
A group of strangers
hugging
empathizing
relating
encouraging
listening
feeling safe enough to share personal stories
& ask sensitive questions
asking to exchange contact information
& wanting to keep in touch.
When I see connections like these being made between people during and after a death cafe, I know something
magical
authentic
and deeply human
has transpired.
My death cafe on July 1st reminded me of what can happen when (mostly) strangers gather to share community and conversation and, of course, food!
I've been hosting death cafes for almost three years, so I've been to a lot of them. I've met people from all walks of life, and I've heard a wide spectrum of questions and stories and conversations. July's death cafe inspired and motivated me to continue offering them.
Every death cafe is unique because the conversation is shaped by the individuals who attend. Experience a death cafe for yourself by going to one of the death cafes events in the DC-area.
