June Newsletter

Welcome Summer!

Summer is a beautiful season. It provides for opportunities to explore, travel, take time off, see family and loved ones, spend more time with our children, and be out in nature with the warm weather.
While the season is lush with opportunities, ensure that you are nurturing your mental health needs during the season:

  • Take time to reflect on your thoughts and emotions.

  • Take a journal while you are traveling.

  • Allow yourself to savor precious experiences you get to have.

  • Enjoy in-season fruit and produce.

  • Participate in community events.

  • And most of all, enjoy what this time of year offers!

Now Offering Yoga Every Wednesday!

I am going to get a little personal here and describe one of my personal journeys.

As a sophomore in high school I struggled with depression. My PE teacher had us do a class one day where we practiced hatha yoga. I never liked PE, but it was the one time I enjoyed her class.

I practiced for a time and enjoyed it. But then, like most of us, I stopped, and put my mat away for a good while. Fast forward ten years later. It was a time where I was overwhelmed on a constant basis. It was also a time where a close family member of ours was hospitalized on multiple occasions. I felt helpless at the time. I decided to get back on my yoga mat and reintroduce myself to yoga practice. I'm glad I did, because it was that experience where I began to feel connected with life once again. At the time yoga helped me to surrender to reality I was going through. And most of all, yoga re-connected to me to myself, something I was really needing.

Yoga has blessed me with many gifts. It's taught me to surrender and it's allowed me to be present. Yoga has allowed me to connect to my body, and as a trauma survivor, that's important! And most of all yoga has helped me with what I find the most challenging: to just be.
As an ever-evolving yogi, I want to invite you to join me on the yoga journey. You might discover your own gifts waiting for you along the way. Yoga offers more than just peace; it offers a sense of stability and sacredness. It is there when our minds and bodies need it most. It is a special offering that you can give yourself time and time again.
Starting June 7th, I will be offering one hour of gentle yoga on a weekly basis. Class will be held every Wednesday at 5:30 pm. We will be practicing in the beautiful space offered by Mother's Little Helper located at 208 S Main Street in Helper. I ask for $10 fee for each class to help support rental of a beautiful space that is being provided.

New Offering for OCD, Phobias, Social Anxiety, . . . . and More!

Recently I had the opportunity to expand my repertoire of therapeutic skills. I am excited to now offer a new technique that is perfectly adapted to treating phobias, obsessions, compulsions, and thoughts, feelings, and sensations that feel intrusive.
Let me introduce you to The Distancing Technique, an EMDR tool created by Dr. C. Paula Krentzel, an EMDR specialist.

Immediately upon learning The Distancing Technique, I have been excited to offer it as a new element in my practice. The Distancing Technique works differently from standard EMDR. Rather than focusing on trauma memories, it instead treats worries that were created as an adaptation to environment and circumstances.
I would now like to offer The Distancing Technique to both active and previously active individuals who are interested in working on intrusive worries, phobias, social anxieties, obsessions, and impulses. If this sounds like something you may benefit from, please reach out 385-243-1744.
