July 2020

Hood River is such an amazing place this time of year. Blossoms Festival is over, as are the blossoms, and now it is time we can enjoy Earth’s bounty!  And what a bounty it is!

Cherry Picking Time!

And there are blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and soon to arrive blackberries, huckleberries, and then there are the pears, peaches, apples and oh, so much more. This bounty can be picked or bought from our local orchardists, or the farm stands along the “Fruit Loop”, or our local weekly Farmer’s Market, or your local garden.

The Hood River Farmer’s Market is held each Saturday and safely follows COVID-19 guidelines. There are many vendors for fresh fruits, vegetables, baked goods, local meat and cheeses, crafts, flowers, and many other goodies.

We're lucky to have several great cooks in our group. One of Donna McCoy's specialties is cherry pie. And she also loves teaching our kids to bake pies.

Work Party

A hard-working crew (especially Maggie) made great progress in clearing the English ivy and blackberries from along our driveway and creek. We had a good time and hope to make it a weekly event. Let us know if you'd like to join us. Bring your own picnic lunch.

Local Women Artists Inspired to Paint Mural

The murals here were painted by two local women artists on the wall of a fruit packing plant south of Hood River. They depict the history and richness of this valley and community, the hard work of our orchard workers, many who are immigrants and their families.
