Dear friend,
Last Sunday night, I was admiring a glorious and bright full moon (a supermoon, in fact). This moon--known as the Worm Moon--shows us that spring is on its way. The ground is thawing, earthworms are reappearing, and robins are returning.
The seasonal cycles of the natural world continue, just as they do every year. The Earth still spins. And yet...
This week has been filled with uncertainty. Everything about COVID-19 seems to get worse day-to-day. My anxieties and fears around death are activated and escalated. Perhaps you feel the same. You are not alone.
I'm sure you've received COVID-19 emails from every company and organization that has your email address, so I'll keep this short.
My March death cafe and obit workshop are canceled. Since in-person events are not possible right now, I'm researching safe ways for us to connect with each other. Social media, the Internet, and technology will provide platforms for us. We can gather online with our death cafe and death positive community, which is always so warm, caring, and supportive. Stay tuned for information on online events.
In happier news...since my last newsletter on February 10th, Death Positive DC has been in the news three times: newspaper, TV, and radio. You can find it all here.
Upcoming Death Positive DC Events
- All March events canceled. No April events are scheduled.
Other Events In and Around DC
- As far as I know, most (maybe all?) March events are canceled. Some events may be going virtual, so check the status with the organizer.
This is a difficult and challenging time for most/all of us, and I'm not sure when it will end. Every day I'm doing my best to practice kindness, compassion, patience, flexibility, and gratitude. I acknowledge my fear and anxiety when it rises. None of this is easy for me. I take social media/news breaks. I go outside with my kids. I check in with my friends and family (especially my loves who have anxiety like I do).
I'm off to find some creative ways to keep these conversations going online...let's connect soon. Keep washing your hands for at least 20 seconds...soap & water will do the trick!
Take care,
Sarah
