Welcome to January's edition of the Charnwood AC newsletter and a Happy New Year to all. Despite the break there's still a number of events and successes to catch up with since the last issue, and the cross-country season kicked back into action on Saturday with the Leicestershire County Championships. See below for our newest Charnwood AC county champions.
 
As thoughts turn towards spring, please take note of the YDL competition dates listed further down and look out for emails from the team managers. For those that are new to this, the Youth Development League (YDL) is the U13/U15 (Lower) and U17/U20 (Upper) age group track and field competitions that Charnwood enter.

World Para Athletics, Dubai
A number of Charnwood AC athletes were selected to represent GB at the World Para Athletics championships in November.
Congratulations to Sophie Hahn on her double Gold and to Tom Young for his Silver medal. Check out Tom's race below:

Leics XC Championship
Charnwood AC's athletes took 5 titles in the mud of Burbage Common, and a number of other team and individual podium placings. Read more here.

British Biathlon Champion
Tom Dixon followed up his world biathle silver by winning Gold in the British biathlon championship (200m swim, 1600m run) in Nottingham at the end of November.

European Cross-Country Championships
Congratulations to Charnwood AC's Euan Makepeace and Hannah Nuttall for representing GB at the European XC Championships in Lisbon, Portugal. Euan competed in the U23 Men's race finishing 56th and Hannah finished 31st in the U23 Women's race.

Sportshall Athletics
Charnwood AC finished off the Leicestershire Sportshall league in style taking the U11 and U13 titles for both Boys and Girls, and finishing second overall (to Ivanhoe Robbins) in the U15s. Congratulations to all the athletes that took part.

YDL Dates for your diary
 
The Lower Age Group (U13/U15, school years 6&7 and 8&9) will be competing in Midlands Division North/East 1A against Amber Valley, City of Stoke, Derby AC, Mansfield, Royal Sutton Coldfield and... Saffron AC.
Match dates as follows:
Sat 16th May at Derby
Sat 6th Jun at Derby
Sat 18 Jul at Loughborough
Sat 8th Aug Promotion match at Solihull
 
The Upper Age Group (U17/U20, school years 10&11 and 12&13) will be competing again in the Midlands Premier North/East division against Birchfield, City of Stoke, Notts AC, Rugby & Northampton and a composite team of Coventry Godiva/Leamington C&AC. Match dates as follows:
Sun 26th April at Rugby
Sun 24th May at Coventry
Sun 21st June at Loughborough
Sun 26th July - Regional Final or N/E Promotion match
