Vision Statement To make Western Australia a vibrant global centre for the ceramic arts. Mission Statement To develop a community that nurtures understanding, practice and passion for the ceramic arts.

Hello everyone! This report is being written in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, from a hotel room in a converted nineteenth-century Indian mansion. So many wonderful things have been happening in the Western Australian ceramic world. Progress is being made in connecting with keynote speakers and demonstrators for the Ceramic Trienalle; the MUD event with Holly O’Meehan was a rousing success, as was the studio visit with Gary Zeck. It's wonderful to see so many new faces at these events. We also had online meetings with our regional ceramics representatives, where a number of workshops are planned for later in the year. The world of ceramics is blossoming. |

CAAWA Over East - Warrandyte Pottery Expo |
by Bernard Kerr The Pottery Expo is a major ceramics event held in Warrandyte, Melbourne, during the last weekend in February. Every year international or interstate ceramic artists feature as special guests in order to create diversity and special interest for Expo visitors and to exchange knowledge and network with Victorian ceramic artists. This year CAAWA was invited to organize a selection of WA potters' work that represented a range of Western Australian ceramic practices.

India: Steeped in Tradition |
by Liz Berry In March, a few of us were fortunate to participate in a ‘test run’ adventure to India, organised by CAAWA committee members Japneet Keith and Katrina Rogers. It was a tremendous success, and we were so grateful for Kat’s very organised itinerary and Japneet’s local knowledge, contacts and, most of all, language!

MUD - Hand Building Abstract Forms with Holly O'Meehan |
by Janet Hummerston What a wonderful afternoon CAAWA members and friends spent with Holly O’Meehan at the South of the River Potters Studio – Karlup in March (Bunuru). Holly began the session with a fantastic slideshow describing her journey as an artist, her love of clay and the possibilities of ceramics.

MUD - Studio Visit and demonstration with Gary Zeck |
by Jeanne Armstrong In May, CAAWA hosted another Make-Understand-Demonstrate (M.U.D) session, this time with Western Australian ceramics legend Gary Zeck. Gary invited us into his home studio in the Swan Valley. This added a heightened sense of excitement for the attendees because there is nothing more exciting for a potter than to sticky beak into another potters' studio to see the inner workings of their processes. Gary's studio is extensive and packed to the brim with all imaginable production processes and tools. It even includes a gallery showcasing his work.
