Today we hear of Elijah’s bodily ascent into heaven in ‘a chariot of fire and horses’. In our Gospel Elijah appears on a mountain with Moses (clearly linking Jesus with the prophets) at Jesus’ transfiguration, where his ‘clothes became dazzling white’ - another kind of Epiphany - which we’re told terrifies the three disciples who have been taken along. The passage from II Corinthians alludes to this event - ‘the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ’. This is contrasted with the blindness of the minds of the unbelievers, caused by ‘the god of this world’ (Satan). |

LENT BEGINS THIS WEEK and our Ash Wednesday Mass, with Litany and Imposition of Ashes, is at 7pm. Please ensure you have a copy of our Lent, Holy Week & Easter leaflet which details our services and other events in that period. |

REGULAR GIVING Giving to fund the ministry of the Church is an essential part of our Christian faith. Please, if you don’t already, would you consider giving a regular amount? No amount is too small. Using our parish giving scheme is easy and you are in full control (and Margaret Quinney will be pleased to help you if needed). One-off donations can be made using the Parish Giving Scheme, or with the card machine at the back of church, or by putting cash/cheques in the offering plate.
