PLEASE make sure you're loading this entire edition of The Herald! Depending on your device, The Herald may be getting "clipped" and not fully loading. The very last things you should see are the P.O. Box address and "Visit the Website" link at the bottom. If you're not seeing this, there are two things you can try. At the very top of the Herald, click on the option to View in a Browser. If that doesn't work, look for "View Entire Message" where it looks to be the end/bottom of The Herald. You should be able to click and load the rest of The Herald. Hopefully this helps some of our members, who haven't been able to hear about all of the awesome things that the Matlacha Hookers have going on! |

Stamp Out Hunger 2024 ~THANK YOU! |
A huge shout out to the Matlacha Hooker volunteers who participated in the 31st Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, held on May 11, 2024. This year over 1600 lbs of food was collected, a definite improvement over the 970 lbs collected in 2023. Food was collected from the greater Pine Island community by postal carriers and volunteers. The donations were then brought to the Pine Island Food Pantry at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal church in Bokeelia, where our energetic volunteers sorted, checked expiration dates, and assisted Food Pantry personnel with organizing the haul. The food collected will go to feeding over 270 needy families on Pine Island. This is one of the few locations in South West Florida where donations stay within the local community. A genuine Thank You to Nancy Carlson, Heidi Lutz, Betsy Davis, Joyce and Tom Boyer, Mary Alice Combs, Tammey Lynch, Anita Jannotti, Donna Trusik, Kathleen Marquis, Jeannie Glenn, Cheryl Glenn, Mary Jean Schimmel, Dana Balmain, Vicki Janda, Debra Barlow, Marie Kocher, and Lorie Tidwell. But it all couldn't have taken place without the hard work of Peg Cruikshank, Guy D'Alessio, and the many Food Pantry volunteers. Just one more example of all of us working together and striving to make a positive difference in our community. |

School is OUT for the summer tomorrow, and we're already looking ahead to the upcoming school year! Much like last year, bins will be placed at island businesses to collect school supplies beginning next month, and will run through most of July. The committee will be announcing our late July sorting dates soon. Pine Island Elementary will need help with distributing the supplies at their Open House, and we'll get that date posted when they get that scheduled. Questions? Interested in helping? Contact us!
