Sign into the club monthly meeting to share what's going on in our hives and what we are doing. Honey harvest, late summer dearth, and Varroa treatments are happening or will be soon for all of us. The bees have gone into late summer nectar dearth in some areas, however, blooming knotweed has been spotted in multiple lowland locations! Yes, summer will be over all too soon! The picture above is from last winter, but winter is already in the minds of beekeepers. We say the beekeeping year starts in August as we prep our hives for the winter. The first step for many of us is making sure Varroa is under control. Each year in late summer/fall season, it seems that Varroa populations rise rapidly, even if few were detected until now. Varroa treatment is an important and time critical step in winterization. The picture is also a reminder to meet fellow keepers outdoors and in person before the cold rain returns! Please make time to connect with other beekeepers at the Fair and at Hivesides. |

The queen grafting demo at the Maltby location is almost finished. In the picture above Minh Cao, Joe Dunsmire, and Carol Moore (left to right) are assembling mating nucs by transferring the resources, young bees and brood needed from the Langstroth long. Next year the club will offer a 4-session grafting and mating class starting as soon as weather permits. Late spring/early summer weather 2023 has to be better than 2022, we hope! |

NORTHERN (ASIAN) GIANT HORNET Trap Kit materials are still available for you to pick up at the Snohomish County locations below, if you choose to be part of this citizen science project. Over half the kits have been distributed. It is not too late to set up your trap; on the contrary, the chance of catching one rises with each week that passes as any possible NGH nest moves into the raising of multiple queens and their dispersal, even through November. Before committing to weekly inspection, check out the trapping instructions at these links. These links are also included on labels included in the materials you pick up from the club members that have volunteered to be Distribution Managers.
