LONG COVID STUDY &
FREE WORKSHOPS

Long Covid Research Study
Black, South Asian, Arab and other ethnic minority groups have had
higher rates of COVID-19 infection, with worse severity and death rates than
seen in the White British population. Although so far there is no evidence that
post-COVID syndrome (or long COVID) is higher in these groups,
lack of trust in healthcare, racism, stigma, discrimination and language barriers have the potential to hinder reporting of symptoms and lead to worse consequences or poor care for those with long COVID.

The Public Community Involvement Engagement (PCIE) team is looking for volunteers to join their Patient Advisory Group to contribute to research on this issue.  Volunteers will support the PCIE team to create culturally appropriate study materials, interview questions and material for dissemination of findings.
Meetings will be online, and participants will be paid for their time.

THE INCEPTION OF STOCKPORT'S
WOMEN & GIRLS NETWORK

Stockport's Women & Girls champion, Nadia Ali, arranged an inception meeting for a Stockport based network that supports women's and girl's rights and tackles gender-based issues the community that females face locally.

It is very important that all female voices are heard especially from our ethnically diverse communities which often suffer more inequalities
because of the lack of understanding about intersectionality.

We need to hear your voices and your stories of sexism and discrimination
due to being a woman. We also need male allies to be part of this new network
to help us tackle gender inequality and toxic masculinity.

Our S-REP member and adviser Paula King stood in the local elections in Reddish North for the Women's Equality Party.

Local gov have powers over services affecting our everyday lives, such as social care, housing, planning, and education. Women disproportionately rely on these services but are under-represented in decision-making. So we hope you all voted.

When canvassing Paula was happy to hear that voters wanted increased funding for domestic abuse/violence services, and investing in social care and childcare and these issues were of grave concern to local people the Reddish North Community.

HELP FOR BLACK AND ASIAN
BUSINESSES TO GROW

Research consistently shows that outcomes for ethnic minority business owners and entrepreneurs are worse than those for the general business population in the areas of productivity, turnover and non-financial goals, despite higher
than average levels of entrepreneurialism and innovation.

We want to help change this.

Our partnership with Mastercard for the Strive UK programme aims to transform the performance of black, Asian and other minority businesses in the UK by connecting leaders from this community to the digital economy in order to grow and strengthen their businesses.

JOIN THE IAG AND HAVE YOUR SAY
ON LOCAL POLICE MATTERS

In Stockport we hold an IAG meeting every other month, to discuss local policing issues and the impact it has on our communities. We have a small number of knowledgeable and committed members, but we would like to recruit new members who represent the communities we serve.

This is an opportunity for you and your community to be heard
and to help add value to our local policing services.

PETITION TO SIGN

Abolish no recourse to public funds (NRPF) visa conditions

NRPF leaves people unable to access benefits and housing assistance, forcing too many into destitution and unsafe situations. The Government should end this policy in order to reduce destitution, bring dignity to those in need, and as research strongly suggests, it would save the country money.

A recent report (https://data.london.gov.uk/dataset/scba-nrpf-policy-in-london) suggests that ending NRPF could result in societal gains of up to £872 million. Ending NRPF makes sense for everyone.
