Chairman’s Corner

Be an individual.

Think for yourself!

Going back in history, George Washington won a presidential election, and his opponent then became Washington’s Vice President. How could that happen? Because both men loved their country more than their political affiliations. But, George Washington did have a concern that citizens’ loyalties would become more loyal to their parties than to their country.

Buncombe County’s Republican Partystands for strong families, love of God, free enterprise, law & order, and education free from indoctrination.   We are the working man’s/woman’s party, helping to keep more money in your pockets.  We believe in equal opportunity and justice for all.  Aren’t these the shared principles of our country to which we Americans pledge our loyalty?

We encourage you to know the US Constitution personally and the ideals that make our country exceptional. And, whether you are a Democrat, Republican or Independent - think for yourself!  We are offering an 8-week, “Constitution Alive” class on Sunday evenings from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. starting July 14th either via zoom or in person – if interested, please call our office at 828-253-5800.

Happy Independence Day!

Legislative Spotlight

NC House Bill 237 prohibits face masks as a means of concealing identity, prohibits individuals from lying, sitting, and/or standing in a roadway in order to impede emergency vehicle access, and makes certain changes to campaign finance rules. The bill was approved by both the NC House and the NC Senate. NC Governor Cooper has vetoed the bill. The legislature has the opportunity to override the Governor’s veto.

New Army Reserve Facility to be built in Asheville

U.S. Congressman Chuck Edwards (NC-11) announced that the Department of the Army will fund a $32 million project in Asheville, N.C. The contract funds the construction of a U.S. Army Reserve center, vehicle maintenance facility and organizational storage building in the Asheville vicinity, to be completed by June 2026.

Election Integrity Update

“STOP!” Noncitizen Voting

The Election Integrity Network and the Only Citizens Vote Coalition call on all House Members to pass the SAVE Act when it comes up for a vote in July.

Washington, DC. — With potentially millions of noncitizen resident aliens and illegal immigrants being regularly added to voter rolls due to loopholes in federal law, the Election Integrity Network (EIN), the Only Citizens Vote Coalition (OCVC), and their partners are calling on Congress to pass common-sense legislation to protect citizen voters in November.

The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act now has more than 230 state legislators supporting the measure and 104 U.S. House Members (including our own Chuck Edwards) co-sponsoring this key voter protection legislation. Concerned American voters are calling on all members of Congress to pass the SAVE Act (H.R. 8281) when it comes to an anticipated floor vote the week of July 8th.

The SAVE Act requires documented proof of citizenship to register for federal elections, amending current law which does not require such documentary proof when a new registration is processed.

The SAVE act would block foreign nationals living in the US legally, as well as illegal aliens, from registering to vote. It would also help states remove noncitizens from voter rolls and comply with voter list maintenance statutes.

Just Facts, a nonpartisan research institute, estimates that between 1 million and 2.7 million noncitizens are likely to illegally vote in the 2024 presidential and congressional elections unless stronger election integrity measures are implemented.
