It was another tough week in Arkansas. It seems like each week, the GOP majority in our state leadership targets a new group of people. This week we continued to see hate spewed toward children as the legislature overturned the Governor's veto of legislation now make Arkansas the first state to ban gender confirming treatments or surgery for transgender youth. While the Governor tried to defend his actions this morning on the Sunday circuit, it does no good when earlier this session, Hutchinson signed another bill that banned transgender youths from participating in sports teams that align with their gender identity, though he openly acknowledged that there were little or no instances of trans girls participating in sports in Arkansas. |

Hear more about the bills from Washington County Justice of the Peace Evelyn Rios Stafford as she speaks about meeting with the Governor prior to his veto - she was interviewed on MSBNC this morning! |

Support Senator Elliott and the work she has done to bring forth a hate crimes bill in Arkansas. |

DEMAND A ROLL CALL VOTE ON SENATE BILL 622. Senate Bill 622 did not have the support to pass. We only needed one Republican to vote 'no' on Senate Bill 622 to kill the bill. We got that vote. The Republicans on the committee refused to do a roll call vote, suggesting that the bill did not actually pass, but they're trying to force it through the committee anyway. The Young Democrats have put together a great series of infographics and even a video you can watch HERE that highlights the issue. |
