YCL E-NEWS April 2021

Have a look at what's new for York County Library!

Celebrate National Library Week, April 4–10

National Library Week highlights the essential role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening communities, and how libraries have gone above and beyond to adapt to meet the needs of their users. Whether you visit us in person or virtually, YCL says "Welcome to Your Library!" We're celebrating National Library Week with fun "Social Spirit" activities on social media each day!

  • April 4, "Post Your Shelfie Sunday:" Take a "shelfie" photo of your bookshelf and tell us about your favorite book.
  • April 5, "Magazine Monday:" Borrow an online magazine and let us know which one you selected.
  • April 6, "hoopla Tuesday:" Borrow something from hoopla and share what you checked out.

  • April 7, "Why Do You Love YCL? Wednesday:" Show your love for YCL on social media. Use the hashtags #NationalLibraryWeek and #YCL.

  • April 8, "Character Thursday:" Dress up as your favorite book character or scene and share your photos with us.

  • April 9, "Book Face Friday:" Match a pose with a book cover to make it appear as one image and show us the results.

  • April 10, "Learn Your Story Saturday:" Use one of our history or genealogy databases and tell us about it.

April is About Access: Service Enhancements at YCL

In the spirit of National Library Week, YCL has added new, expanded services. Visit us in person or through our Virtual Library, where you'll find these latest enhancements and so much more!

  • Extended Hours: Starting April 12, all YCL locations will begin new hours: Monday–Friday: 10 a.m.–6 p.m.; Saturday: 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
  • Income Tax Forms and Assistance: The 2020 federal income tax filing due date has been extended from April 15 to May 17, as has the deadline for both North and South Carolina state income taxes. The IRS has provided YCL with 1040 and 1040-SR forms, Schedules 1–3, and instructions. No state income tax forms are available. A Tax Help Flyer with information on forms and assistance is available at all YCL locations. VITA will provide very limited free assistance at only one location in York County.
  • Kanopy Trailers: You no longer need to worry about using Kanopy credits to find out if a film is one you would like. Kanopy now offers trailers! Easily see if a video will be the right fit for the viewing occasion, or decide if you think you’ll like that movie or series. You'll feel more confident in choosing how to use your play credits!
  • Online Card Renewal: Library cards expire every two years and must be renewed, but now you can conveniently renew your Library card online! A library staff member will review the information and process the renewal. You may also call or visit your local YCL location to renew your card.
