COVID-19 UPDATE
Ciao tutti.
Firstly, to everyone out there - wherever you may be in the world - all of us here in Basilicata and the whole of Italy hope that you're safe and well and getting through all of this.
Like for many, this period is proving to be a tough challenge. As we're sure you can imagine, tourism here has been devestated over these last few months and the immediate outlook doesn't look so good either. Everyone is suffering.
However, let us not forget that Italy is the land of 'rebirth' and if there's one thing that is for SURE, then it's that Italy will survive this, be reborn in the aftermath and we will be even stronger and more beautiful than before. In fact, it's amazing to see how nature here is demonstrating the vitality of our land. The grass seems greener than ever, the fruit and vegetables are growing aplenty and even the animals are coming to see us more and more – whether it be foxes in Rome or wild boar here in Matera.
The long and short of it is this. We can't welcome you at the moment and we don't know when we will be able to. But we WILL welcome you all again soon. Of that, there can be no doubt. Some of you reading this will already have created special memories of this place and its people and some of you will, sadly, have had to cancel the trips that you've had planned with us. All of you though can rest assure that Matera, Basilicata and Italy herself are not going anywhere - we'll still all be here and we'll welcome you with everything we have to offer really soon.
Even though we cannot travel right now and we cannot visit the fruits of nature and culture that Italy has to offer, some of you will know of one of Greg's favourite sayings here and it's a saying that even the pandemic can't stop us from being inspired by: 'La vita è troppo breve per non essere italiano' - 'Life is too short to not be Italian'. So even though you may not be able to get to us at the moment, we invite you to hold us in your hearts and live like we do. Eat well. Laugh a lot, listen to music and love...and we'll all get through this and see each other very soon.
