A Look Back Over 2019 Festive greetings to you, and thank you for your continued support. We've had a busy year here at Tower Blocks UK and we have some exciting projects in the pipeline for 2020. We look forward to continuing to strengthen our partnerships with various organisations and tower block residents in the year ahead. We are indebted to a small network of dedicated individuals and organisations who share our aims and are working closely with us. |

| | FixMyBlock - A Tower Block Action Guide We are pleased to announce that through the support of the Legal Education Foundation, we will be continuing to work alongside our partners at mySociety on a project which aims to empower and enable tower residents to take pro-active steps to raise concerns or maintenance issues in their blocks. Phase 2 of the project begins in the new year, and we are seeking to engage with residents through piloting and will be sharing more detail early in 2020. If you would like to find out more about taking part, please get in touch with us! | | |

Valuing Tenants We were invited to take part in a Westminster Briefing entitled 'Engaging and Including Social Housing Tenants - Tackling Stigma, Segregation and Making Sure Voices Are Heard'. We believe that those who live in social housing should be at the centre of the conversation on how the sector can improve. That's why we are proud to have social housing tenants working within Tower Blocks UK. This gives us a unique advantage and perspective of what life is really like for tenants. |

Influencing Policy Changes This year has seen a concerning rise in the number of serious fires in multi-storey blocks. We continue to campaign and lobby the government on issues of fire and structural safety whilst offering support, advice and guidance to those affected. We've made written submissions to Dame Judith Hackitt's Independent Review of Building Regulations, The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and the United Nations. We continue to work alongside other groups including the Fire Brigades Union with their 'Never Again' Campaign, Fuel Poverty Action and Fire Doors Safety Week. |

Tower Blocks UK - In The News Tower block safety continues to be an urgent issue throughout the UK. As the government continues to move slowly in addressing problems such as combustible materials, structural deficiencies and internal fire safety - we have worked with the media to keep these topics at the forefront of public debate. Click on the links below to find out what we've been discussing, and visit our News Blog for further information. |

Fire Safety Checklist Parliamentary Launch In June we launched our Fire Safety Checklist at the Houses of Parliament, alongside our partners Professor Helen Carr and Dr Ed Kirton-Darling of Kent University Law School. The event was hosted by Karen Buck MP and chaired by former BBC correspondent Kurt Barling. It was very well attended by MP's, housing association, local authority and tenant representatives, as well as fire industry experts.

Tower Block Residents Photography Project We worked alongside award-winning photographer Professor Paul Wenham-Clarke of Arts University Bournemouth, to produce a series of powerful images that tell individual stories of tower block residents. The residents were in the process of being decanted from blocks which had been found to fall short of the building regulations on the Ledbury Estate in Peckham and Broadwater Farm Estate in Haringey. Professor Clarke also produced the images to accompany our Fire Safety Checklist. |

Tower Blocks UK 36 year anniversary Back in October 1983, we held our first National Tower Blocks Conference. Two tenants of the refurbished Ronan Point tower block came to talk to us about concerns they had with gaps and cracks in their flats. This is where our campaign began. We relaunched in 2017 and now have a dedicated archive page on our website, with downloadable versions of our National Tower Blocks Directories from the 80s and 90s, as well as our first Fire Safety Information Pack.
