There are so many ways to get involved! Join Lakeshore Food Club in raising awareness and support for fair access to healthy food for all.

THANK YOU TO OUR PARTNERS

A critical piece of LFC's food rescue is, of course, the ability to transport rescued food from retail outlets to the Food Club. Without a cargo vehicle, we've been relying on community partners who have generously loaned their box trucks - and sometimes drivers! - to help LFC in the early days of this new undertaking.

Big shout out to Habitat for Humanity and HELP Ministry for the use of their vehicles. Collaboration makes it happen!

LFC IN THE LDN

All throughout 2019 team members at the Food Club have been penning a monthly column for the Ludington Daily News! Have you read it? Check out the last few columns of the year on the first Saturday of each month.

Thanks to David Bossick and the LDN team for featuring the work of LFC in the community.

SIMPLY GIVE UPDATE

Many thanks to Ludington Meijer for supporting LFC during its Simply Give campaign. Altogether more than $15,000 was raised that will go to purchasing food from the Meijer B2B program.

Missed your chance to help? Stay tuned to find out when LFC will again be the beneficiary of Simply Give. Thank you Meijer and all who gave!

Volunteer Currents

MEET SARA BOLAN

Sara Bolan began volunteering in January 2018. She quickly became very involved and has assisted on several fronts.

In addition to her weekly volunteer shift, Sara has become an integral member of the Community Development Committee. She is spearheading a signature “empty bowls” fundraising event that will be held in 2020, and working with Starving Artist Brewing to develop a signature beer “Feeding Frenzy” to benefit the Food Club. Watch future Lakeshore Food Club newsletters for details!

Sara is working on September’s Hunger Action Month We CAN (Care About our Neighbors) activities to increase awareness of the food needs in our community, by working with the Community Development Committee to create a monthly calendar of ways Mason County residents and businesses can help. She also developed the Food Club’s re-usable bag program for members to reduce the use of plastic bags.

Sara was born and raised in Ludington. She attended Central Michigan University, majoring in Sociology with a minor in Recreation. During her college years she moved to Morris, Illinois, to take a job at the company where her sister worked. There she met her husband and stayed in Illinois for 34 years raising their daughter. Sara worked for the Department of Parks and Recreation for 32 years managing the ice arena. She and her husband Gordon have maintained a home in Ludington for the past 17 years and happily retired here.

Sara also volunteers for A Few Friends of the Environment of the World, Sable Dunes Audubon Society and Friends of the Ludington State Park. In the winter she volunteers as a tax preparer at the Ludington Senior Center. She enjoys making pottery and at 51 took up women’s ice hockey!

Sara likes working with her fellow volunteers and interacting with the community members.  She strives to make sure members feel like the Food Club is “their grocery store.”
