From the Pastor’s Desk

“Peace, I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

– Jesus

Beautiful.  This is one of my most favorite quotes from scripture… a promise of peace and a proclamation of tranquility for our restless souls.

Jesus, the peace maker.  Jesus the peace giver.

Jesus reminds us that he does not give as the world gives… and yet, we turn our attention to sensationalized news sources, and divisive commentators daily.  We fire up the Facebook and we lean into untruths and disinformation.

And we worry.

My invitation to you this Easter season is to turn it around.  Dive into the Word!  Get a good devotional to start your day.  Turn down the self-proclaimed pundits and maybe even take a Facebook break???

Join us on Wednesday at 10am for bible study or mark your calendars for “Dinner Church” once a month beginning in May.

We have been given each other as a gift to walk together in the world.  So let’s walk on the side of love and light!

He is RISEN!  He is RISEN INDEED!

“My peace I give to you” – Jesus said.

It just doesn’t get any better than that!

Happy, blessed Easter!

Pastor P

Starting on Saturday, April 20th, a series of six consecutive Saturday sessions will be held on the practice of Centering Prayer. Centering prayer is a remarkably simple method that opens one to God’s gift of contemplative prayer. Its practice expands one's receptivity to the presence and activity of God in one's life.

A sign-up sheet and more information can be found in the narthex. If you have any questions about the series, please see Peter Johnson.

Lunch Bunch will meet Tuesday April 2th at 11:30am at

Bullwinkle’s 18900 W Bluemound Rd in Brookfield.

If interested in joining please sign up in the Narthex. This group is open to all Gethsemane women. Feel free to invite your friends and neighbors. Please contact Joni Tombari 414-412-9410 with any questions

ROBOTS! ROBOTS!

On Saturday and Sunday, March 16th and 17th, a number of our Gethsemane family attended the First Robotics Competition - Wisconsin Regional to see the BEAST Robotics team (a collaboration of Brookfield East and Central high schools) show off their new creation: ELVIS! Gethsemane “BEAST” team members included Phoenix Spears, and coaches Dustin and Dean Spears. ELVIS did not disappoint! The team is headed to their next competition – the Seven Rivers Regional in LaCrosse, WI, April 3-6. Good luck Spears family and ELVIS!!

The Next Volunteer dates for Mr. Bobs are April 20th & May 18th

Please see sign-up sheet in Narthex if you are interested in volunteering your time!

Please join us after worship on April 14th

Let’s get to know Cheryl Perra

How long have you been a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church?  Since November 17, 1974 - 50 Years.

What is your current occupation or volunteer position? Retired nurse and Volunteer at church; Communion set up and on Worship/Music committee.

Also a member of the voice and bell choir.

What do you love most about your industry?  I loved working in the hospital, seeing my patients get better.  I then did School Nursing,

Keeping the students on a healthy life style.  I love spending time and participating with my Gethsemane family.

Who inspires you in your life? My Mom when she was alive. Gave me a strong religious life.  Church activities kept her busy. Now I have my sister, Debi, who also is a kind and religious person.

What is one piece of advice you can give someone? You don’t need to love someone to get along with them; just be kind and respectful.

What are your gifts or hobbies? I used to do a lot of crafts, but now my sister and I go antiquing.  We love to look at items our parents had in their day.

If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life what would it be? Surf (lobster) and Turf (steak) with a baked potato with butter and sour cream.

Tell us about your family or loved ones. I am the oldest child and my sister the youngest.  We had two brothers between us, who are

now deceased, way too early.

In 1971 I met Tom, who later became my husband. He passed in 2002. We had 2 sons, Kenneth and Tucker. As most of my church family knows, I then became a Grandma to 3 boys whom I adore. Spiro, 19; Tommy (named after my Tom) 17 and Lukas, 12.  Fall of ’24, both Spiro and Tommy will be at UW-Oshkosh, playing football and Lukas will start 7th grade at Eisenhower MS. Lukas has been in many sports; football, basketball, baseball and wrestling.  He hopes to follow in his brothers footsteps playing football and wrestling.  And I will be there watching them!

What are your hopes and dreams you would like to see in the future? I hope to see Gethsemane continue to grow and thrive.

I pray for my grandsons remain healthy and thrive in their lives.

Tell us a special story or memory about you! My favorite story goes back to the day I became a member of Gethsemane and a mother. I was set to become a member on November 17, 1974, but I was also 9 months pregnant.  That Saturday night I went into labor and Sunday morning, Kenneth Ralph was born.

Pastor Knox was our Clergy then who my Mom had known.  After that Sunday, Pastor Knox sent me a note saying, “Some people would do anything to get out of standing in front of church.”

(If you are interested in participating in our member spotlight or nominating someone to be, please see the sign-up in the Narthex or you can always email the office

Lenten “Dinner Church” was a big success!

A very special thank you to all who came out to gather on Wednesday evenings during lent! To all who made delicious soup and desserts, who sent bread for blessing and breaking together and for all who added to great table discussion… THANK YOU! We had a great experience harkening back to the ways of the ancient church and – as you can imagine… we had a great time doing it! Look for a new Wednesday night “Dinner Church” opportunity beginning in May! Details coming soon!

Youth Gathering – Proceeds from the Craft fair raffle will go to our Youth Gathering fundraiser! Please join us April 13th for some shopping, raffle prizes and food! We hope to see you there!

Thanks to everyone’s generous donations, the Exploit No More ministry was able to create 22 “welcome bags” for our friends at the Freedom House. The bags included comfort items to make the women’s stay more “homey”. Each bag contained chocolates, fuzzy socks, Chapstick, hair accessories, a notebook and pen, a prayer patch (thanks to the Knit 1 Pray 2 ministry), a water bottle, nail polish, and a bracelet. Each bag also had a welcome note from our congregation.
The house was super appreciative of our contribution. One woman from the house stopped down to see what we brought, and she was extremely excited (especially for fuzzy socks). Thanks again for all of your help and support :)
