August 20, 2023

Aloha Everyone,

I hope this note finds you safe and well. Here are some articles of August:

  • Maui Rapid Response

  • In rehearsal at Ford's Theatre: Pearl Cleage's latest play!

  • Co-Curators at DNAWORKS

  • Presidency at Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation

Many of you have inquired about me and my family in Hawai`i. Mahalo for your care and concern. We live on O`ahu and are safe. But Maui is hurting. The TimeBank I'm involved with helped assemble this resource. Please spread the word and assist if your circumstances allow.

Rehearsals launched last week at Ford's Theatre for the world premiere of Pearl Cleage's poetic and rousing new play, SOMETHING MOVING: A MEDITATION ON MAYNARD.

Read about the cast and creative team here. The production runs from September 22 - October 15.

DNAWORKS, an inter-disciplinary performance organization, announced a new leadership structure and team. I am part of a freshly created co-curation team along with Co-Founder Daniel Banks, Troy Lambert, and Sarita Ocón. We'll work alongside Executive Director Andrés Franco in this experiment in a wall-less organization focused on connecting art and people, with a larger goal of contributing to building healthier communities.

I was recently elected president of the board of Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation. This is an organization I believe in that is committed to serving professional stage directors and choreographers in all phases of their career, and I am happy to participate in this volunteer capacity. My fellow board members are Mark Brokaw, Sharon Ott, Maggie Burrows, Justin Emeka, Laura Penn, Ellenore Scott, Maria Torres, and Victoria Traube. You may read more about them and our work at SDCF here.

Take Care,

Seema Sueko
