Register for the Summer Learning Challenge
June 3 – July 31 • All Ages • Register Now!

This summer, "Adventure Begins at Your Library!" Join YCL's 2024 Summer Learning Challenge for awesome prize drawings and reading incentives for all ages. Sign up at any YCL branch, the Bookmobile, or online using our fun, interactive Beanstack website or app, then pick up a reading log at any YCL branch or use your Beanstack account to track your reading progress.
 
Complete your reading requirements by July 31 to receive your incentives and be entered in a grand prize drawing! That's not all! Check below for our lineup of exciting performances for June, featuring live animals, magic, puppets, stories, and more! You can find full details for these and other great programs on our Events Calendar, or read more about the Challenge at yclibrary.org/slc. This Challenge is sponsored by the Friends of the York County Library.

Children's Summer Learning Performances

Summer Reading Challenge Kick-off
June 3–4: Celebrate the start of the Summer Reading Challenge with a one-of-a-kind concert by The Jolly Lollies! This Charlotte-based music group provides a silly, magical experience for adults and children.

Travelin' Tales
June 4–7: Pack your bags and fasten your seatbelts for "That Puppet Guy!" This trio of timeless, multi-cultural tales delivers messages of honesty, anti-bullying, and that being bigger doesn't make you more important.
 
The Totally Twisted Tale
of the Three Little Pigs
June 11–14: Porkchop Productions' fast-paced twist on a timeless tale teaches lessons on finding friendships where you least expect them and the bond that can be formed over a book.

Three Bears and a Big Bad Wolf
June 17–21: What happens when characters from different tales meet? Columbia Marionette Theater answers this and more ... as an unexpected mix of storybook characters finds themselves in a new adventure!
 
Cirque du Todd
June 25–28: This wacky, witty, one-of-a-kind performance by Cirque du Todd combines amazing juggling and circus skills with a little magic and just the right mix of comedy and reading encouragement for all ages.

LibraryCon Celebrates Comics, Authors, Fans

Thank you to all the enthusiastic comic and cosplay fans who joined us for 2024 LibraryCon! We had over 1,100 attendees at this year’s event! You all helped make this another incredible day for our popular comic and pop culture convention. We also extend special thanks to our featured authors, Ashley Belote, Brandon Reese, Brendan Reichs, and Alicia D. Williams; our cosplay contest judges from NERD.0; and our sponsors, vendors, and special guests.

YCL's Stacy Williams Completes LYCO Program

YCL proudly recognizes Marketing Manager Stacy Williams for graduating from the Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership York County (LYCO) program on May 22. For nine months, Stacy collaborated with 33 business professionals throughout the county to identify and address an area of need in our community — all while practicing cooperation, communication, and teamwork. Stacy’s class decided to help first responders in York County. 

The class's project involved engaging the community in direct appreciation efforts, launching a 5K race at Carowinds to raise money for important necessities identified by first responders, and requesting an annual proclamation from every town/city in York County to recognize and honor those who serve the community. Congratulations, Stacy!

Get Ready for an Epic Summer Challenge: Solve Clues, Win Prizes!

Hey teens, kick off your summer adventures this June and July with a Scavenger Hunt! To participate, solve the first clue from our clue sheet (available to download or pick up at the Main Library), then head off to search around Old Town Rock Hill for more clues. Once you've solved them all, enter your completed clue sheet in our raffle box to win a fun prize!

All Locations: Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m.–7 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m.–6 p.m.
Main Library (Rock Hill), Fort Mill, & Lake Wylie: Saturday, 9 a.m.–6 p.m.
Clover & York: Saturday, 9 a.m.–2 p.m.

Juneteenth: All York County Library locations will be closed Wednesday, June 19, for the Juneteenth holiday.
 
Friends Books on Main: Shop a huge selection of books, DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks for all ages at the Friends of the Library bookstore, open to the public at 206 E. Main St. in Old Town Rock Hill, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, from 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
