Note from the Director December 2021 by Patricia Cream Happy Holidays! My favorite time of the year. I really enjoy decorating my house and yard with all my holiday lights and decorations. I love the beautiful lights, the joyful music and the opportunity to look for and find special gifts for my loved ones. Every year I look forward to the Holiday Bazaar, which this year goes from December 3, 2021, through January 7, 2022, at the Gallery ABQ. We have many Christmas and Chanukah specialty gifts as well as other small to medium-sized art by local artists in the Gallery Salon show. The variety of art includes one-of-a-kind acrylic, ceramics, fused glass, mosaics, oils, and pastels. Be sure to come to our reception on December 3, 2021, from 5-8:00 pm to do your holiday shopping in a Covid-safe environment, while you sip on a glass of wine and meet the artists! We are excited to announce a remodel for the gallery that will start on January 10th. We will be getting new carpet, and the pedestals and walls will be refreshed. We will be closed for a short period of time in January. When we reopen, new art will be on the walls and floor displays. Our artists are busy now working on all new pieces! From February 4-24, 2022, we will be having an open show called “Share the Love.” This show will be celebrating the loves in your life--your pets, your humans, or any activity or hobby that brings joy and happiness to your life. Artists are invited to bring in their art for acceptance on January 28th from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Call for Artists: If you are a local artist looking for a Contemporary Fine Arts Gallery to show your art, please go to our website https://www.thegalleryabq.com to get more information about our gallery. The application is online. If you are interested, please send in your application and we can set up a jury date. |

December Featured Artist: Marcos O. Reyna |
Marcos O. Reyna (Acrylic, Oils, Gouache) by Linda Weiss Marcos O. Reyna is one of the December Featured Artists at The Gallery ABQ. The First Friday reception is December 3, 2021, from 5-8:00 pm. Marcos loves bold, bright colors. He paints portraits, abstract art, and religious themes, being a retired Catholic priest. He was invited by the Dallas Museum of Art as a guest artist to teach a class on painting New Mexican retablos and Russian and Greek icons. For these religious images, Marcos uses gouache instead of natural pigments on board or hard panels. After the image has dried, he uses a varnish which he makes out of New Mexico piñon sap. Marcos is influenced by people and images of the Southwest and looks to artists such as John Nieto and R. C. Gorman—along with Tamayo, Picasso, Pollack, and Motherwell for his abstract inspiration. He loves that in nature there are no rules by which colors must abide. Visiting galleries, museums and other artists also inspire his works. Come meet Marcos in person on December 3, 2021and learn more about his paintings from the artist himself. |

December Featured Artist: David Marks |
David Marks (mixed media) By Linda Weiss David Marks is one of the December Featured Artists at The Gallery ABQ on December 3, 2021, from 5-8:00 pm. David uses abstract layering with acrylics and varnish on wood panels to create texture and dimension. He can make his paintings look like old tree bark, even while overlaying modern geometrical shapes for depth. David’s inspiration is derived from growing up in a family of artists. Having seen the world in his previous career with a corporate software company, David now finds a sense of purpose, calm, and spirituality in his paintings. His favorite subjects are aspens, and the different colors of bark that he develops with his multimedia abstract techniques. When asked, “What do you like most about your art,” he answered “The look of layering and aging.” Come meet David on December 3, 2021, and learn more about his paintings from the artist himself! |

Art is unquestionably one of the purest and highest elements in human happiness. It trains the mind through the eye, and the eye through the mind. As the sun colors flowers, so does art color life. ― John Lubbock |
