Autumn insights from Fe Robinson Psychotherapy

Helping you thrive, whatever life brings

As autumn begins it seems a good time to reflect on what has bloomed in 2021 so far, and how we now begin to let go, ready for the stripping bare and recharging of the winter to come.   Writing from Gainford in Lower Teesdale I am surrounded by the changing season, the daily changes in nature around me prompting my inner reflections.

I'm pleased to have returned to in-person work for those clients who choose this.  I am lucky to have a spacey, well-ventilated space to work in, and am taking care to minimise covid-19 risk in so far as is possible.  I am now offering sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, working with clients both locally and nationally using online connectivity.

I hope you enjoy this short selection of articles and inspirations.  Please pass them on to people you feel might get benefit from them.  If you feel the time is right to engage in some therapeutic work you're welcome to be in touch confidentially at fejrobinson@gmail.com or on 01325 730021.

Understanding psychological development over our lifespan

I've been writing a series over the last few months about Erik Erikson's model of psychosocial development, which charts eight stages through which we pass as we mature.  It's been popular on social media, so here's a link to the first blog in the series. For links to the other articles, send me an email.

Do you trust the world?

Beginning with the end in mind

I like to help clients be really clear what they want to have happen when they come into therapy, it's an investment and naturally calls for a measurable return.  For reflections to help you decide what you want from the experience, check out this blog.

Being clear about what you want from therapy

Relationship stock take

Simple stuff does it for me...here is a lovely tool I came across eons ago that I still use regularly.  Why not map your relationships and see what there is to be learned?

To finish this time, here's a short piece of Rumi, written back in the 13th century but timeless in nature.  The theme of continual flexing, of loosening and tightening really speaks to me of the rhythm of personal development work.  As hypnotherapist Steve Gilligan likes to say, 'not too tight, not too loose' is the key to generativity and creation.

Expecting the worst, you look, and instead,

Here’s the joyful face you’ve been waiting to see.

Your hand opens and closes and opens and closes.

If it were always a fist or always stretched open,

you would be paralysed.

Your deepest presence is in every small contracting and expanding.

The two as beautifully balanced and coordinated as birdwings.

Rumi

Wishing you presence and poise in your own being, and with the movement of life as it flows through and around you.

Fe x
