Our third panel speaker Professor Hugh Possingham is Queensland Chief Scientist, a conservation scientist and mathematician who has held numerous positions in the university, public and not-for profit sectors, often working pro bono to improve the state of Australia’s threatened species and habitats. He was most recently the Chief Scientist at The Nature Conservancy, a global conservation organisation operating in 79 countries. Hugh has won two Eureka Prizes, was a Rhodes Scholar, gaining a PhD from Oxford, and was co-developer of Marxan, software first used to rezone the Great Barrier Reef, now used in almost every country in the world to inform the expansion of their marine and terrestrial protected area systems. |

MC for the Big Dialogue, Julieanne Alroe is a professional director and chairperson. She is currently Chair of Infrastructure Australia and of Queensland Ballet, a member of the University of Queensland Senate, on the board of the Australian Energy Market Operator and several private companies and a Member of the Committee for Brisbane Advisory Board and other significant not-for-profits. Julieanne has over 40 years of leadership experience in the aviation industry, for which she was awarded an honorary doctorate by Griffith University in 2016. Between 2009 and 2018 she was CEO of Brisbane Airport Corporation, where she planned the $1.3 billion development of Brisbane's parallel runway. |
