Dear friends,
Like many of you, I am piecing together the puzzle of what my life will look like this fall...in terms of work, school, friends, family...and Halloween?! It's a work in progress with a lot of unanswered questions. I've practiced surrendering, embracing uncertainty, and rolling with whatever life brings our way.
I miss seeing friends from the death positive community so much. Until we can meet again in person, I'll continue to offer death cafes and other events online.
I'm hosting a death cafe on August 8th (12:30 - 2 p.m. eastern) and there are a few spaces left. Let me know if you would like to RSVP.
On Friday, August 7th, there's an important online event called Dying Black, Dying White, Dying Gay: A Community Perspective. You can register here. Local (to DC) death doula Valoria Walker will be on the panel (as well as Shelby Kirillin from Richmond and Kim Adams from Baltimore).
Efforts are underway to stop the desecration of Macedonia Baptist Church’s Moses African Cemetery in Bethesda, MD. This is happening just outside of Washington, DC. The Bethesda African Cemetery Coalition (BACC) organizes these efforts; I am simply a participant.
You can help--especially if you live in Montgomery County (where the cemetery is). Even if you live elsewhere, you can still take action and spread the word. Anyone can contact Marc Elrich, Montgomery County Executive.
As always, there is a list of virtual events (organized by me *and* other people/organizations in the DC-area) in the announcement section of the Facebook group. There are some book clubs, virtual craft fairs, and death cafes happening soon and in the coming months.
Keep wearing those masks, and I hope to connect with you soon!
Take care,
Sarah Farr
