Buncombe Friends,
Before you launch into 2024 and all the election excitement it could bring, clarity for the future helps create peace of mind. May peace be with you in 2024.
As John Keating said, “No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world.” And “... if thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought.” George Orwell.
Here are some terms to be alert to so that we can shine our light when needed:
Democracy – Three wolves and a lamb sitting down at a table and deciding what is for dinner. Mob rule.
Democratic Republic – Rule by laws, not rule by men (USA).
Fascism – A fascist government influences society. Government doesn’t own anything directly, but they control activities (business, commerce, social services) via taxes and regulations. A fascist government accomplishes its goals by pressuring / shutting down companies – some examples include fossil fuel production; or when schools adopt teaching materials such as the 1619 Project, or gender indoctrination books get government funding; or when states’ speed limits are set to 55 mph because the federal government says, “you must comply in order to receive highway funding” – that’s fascism. Fascism is control without actual ownership. You can say, “it is my company” or “it is our school”, or “this is my car”, but it is the government’s desires that you obey. That is Fascism. Any of this sound familiar?
Next step…Socialism
Socialism is when the government controls companies. Socialism lives and depends on using your money. Socialism says, “The government should provide everything, and isn’t it great?” Socialism means free education, free health care, and affordable housing…the next thing you know, you are stuck in the mousetrap of depending on the government for your well-being. There is no reason for an individual to excel - “Hey, if I’m going to get it anyhow, why bother working? Just get in line with everyone else; bread and cheese is on its way.” Socialism is an economic killer. Socialism leads to Communism.
Communism – Central Planning
Government decides what benefits will be dished out and to whom. Government decides how and where you will live, what job you will do, what you will study, what information you will be allowed to receive. Stalin’s experiment of Communism started with collective farms and caused over 8 million citizens to starve.
Marxism
Karl Marx was a Socialist who believed everyone should own everything. Marxism is an attempt to make everything the same temperature. Marxism says, “Everyone is going to sing and dance the same.” The result is if no one can perform better or faster than the slowest, you kill initiative and excellence. Marxism’s goal is to fuse society and the individual into a collective whole to overthrow private property and free enterprise which Karl Marx coined as “capitalism.”
“Capitalism” aka Free Enterprise
Free enterprise is Joe the plumber fixing your clogged sink with tools he owns, motivated to perform his task well to grow his customer base at a price competitive in a free and open market. Free enterprise/ private enterprise has lifted more people out of poverty than any other system. Consider this…
In 1621 in Plymouth colony, Governor Bradford experimented with communism or communal living. The colonists’ productivity was dismal - their excuses for not working increased and they lived on the brink of starvation for two years. Then the governor decided to assign private property to each family - mothers and children were found working in the fields, and productivity increased so much in the first year that food was exported.
Where do you see us heading? Is our government leading us towards independence and prosperity (how much are you paying for eggs and gas these days)? Or are we being led down the opposite of the path of prosperity… Socialism?
Stand up and vote Republican values in 2024! There is hope when the people stand up and let their voices be heard. God bless America.
Enjoy a Merry Christmas – see you in 2024!
