THE DH BEAT

May 2023

We believe positive change in humanity begins by growing

our own courage to act.

“Take responsibility for the energy you bring into this space.” - Oprah Winfrey

 Virtue of the Month:

Responsibility

Responsibility is a bit of a slippery virtue. When out of balance it can feel like a burden or it can trick us into being a little more controlling than necessary to “get things done right.” When we are truly in alignment with responsibility, we are accountable for our own choices, while allowing others the opportunity to learn and grow from theirs.

In a company, this looks like being responsible for giving excellence to our teams, keeping our commitments and bringing out the best in our teammates. In our family, we do the same thing, but with more hugs. The magical thing about having a decided heart is that when you have the courage to show up fully with all your virtues, every relationship you have will improve - work, home and self.

The DH Effect Champions of the Month!

This month we are honoring DHE Champions who exemplify responsibility in action.

Tamara Kajtez and Leasepath

This month’s DHE Corporate Champion is Tamara Kajtez of Leasepath. We think you will agree when

you read her words below that she takes her responsibility of the care and growth of her team to heart. Currently we are facilitating a 6-week Lunch and Learn module on the book Positive Intelligence, by Shirzad Chamine. Tamara, we are honored to have worked with you for two years already and can’t wait for what is next.

I am a Human Resources Coach at Leasepath. The simple title of Human Resources is something that I love. A resource is often referred to as an asset, material, or capability that is available or can be utilized to achieve a particular purpose or goal. When you add the word “Human” in front of “Resources” you create a beautiful title.

We as humans possess a wide range of physical, cognitive and emotional capabilities that enable us to interact in our environments, engage in complex social interactions, and develop culture, language and technology. We can express emotions, form relationships and exhibit complex social behaviours, which have shaped our interactions with each other and the world around us. My love for people is one of my favourite things about my title: Human Resources Coach.

The best part of being in HR is the opportunity to serve as a resource in the success of both teammates and the organization as a whole. One of the most rewarding aspects of being in human resources is the chance to positively impact the lives of teammates by creating a positive work environment, providing support and resources for their growth and development, and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. I have the privilege of fostering a culture that values and appreciates the contributions of all teammates. As an HR Coach, I also play an important role in facilitating effective communication and building strong relationships between teammates and coaches. This is one of the many reasons why we partner with the DH Effect.

Each year, Team Leasepath has a theme of the year. Last year our theme was “We Grow” where we invested in the personal and professional development of all of our teammates. In 2022, we had our first Read Inspired session. We didn’t even finish the 6-week program and we already had teammates asking when the next one was!

The Read Inspired sessions with The DH Effect are a breath of fresh air. They bring our team together for 1 hour a week, where they create a positive safe space for all our teammates. We can read, reflect, learn and GROW as a team.

This year our Theme of the Year is “Cross Every Finish Line”. DH Effect was able to personalize an already effective Read Inspired Workshop, through the creation of “accountability pods.” The DH Effect ensures that there was no teammate left behind in the readings or the lessons. Each of our teammates will “Cross the Finish Line” for the Read Inspired Workshop.

The DH Effect doesn’t only have impact on our Leasepath teammates during the live sessions but our teammates can carry the lessons learned to their friends and family.  As of today, we are on our third Read Inspired Workshop and we are so thankful to DH Effect. We are looking forward to more workshops!

Amy Yeager

Our May DHE Member of the Month is such a light and source of love for all our members. Amy Yeager exemplifies the virtue of responsibility in so many ways. She fights political battles for good, cares for the environment, supports her friends and pours so much unconditional love into her family. We know we are better humans for having her as part of our people. Don’t just take our word for it, though; read her own words below. We love you. Amy!

I am a mom, artist, outdoor enthusiast, and entrepreneur. For the last 13 years, I have been President of Yeager Consulting Group, a comprehensive government affairs services firm, representing clients before all levels of government in the state of California, and occasionally in Washington D.C. I am currently working on launching my art business Amy Elizabeth Art, where I will sell my original paintings, printmaking works, and photography as well as prints and merchandise.

I spend as much time as I possibly can outside. Weather permitting, I work from my outdoor office in my backyard. Hiking, kayaking, gardening, and walks on the beach bring joy to my heart and peace to my soul. My trusty and adventurous dog, Lincoln, is almost always by my side. Most importantly, I am mother to my incredible 17-year old son, Anthony. Anthony and I met later than most - we adopted each other when he was 12. The last 5 years with him have taught me how to be the best human I can be and how to love with my whole heart.

The DH Effect impacts me in so many different ways. Some days, it grounds me, helps me keep centered. Some days it gives me the opportunity to give support or share my perspective to others in our close-knit group. The DH Effect provides me with a safe, mindful, and inspiring space, and a lot of food for thought.

PEQ Performance Leadership Challenge

We will be adding a new section to our monthly newsletter that is designed to challenge you to rise to your PEQ Performance as a leader in your home and at work. PEQ (pronounced peak), stands for Positive Intelligence Quotient and Emotional Intelligence Quotient. These are the skills needed to make your mind your friend more than your enemy, while building high-trust connections with your people.

This month, we challenge you to take time at home and work to have 1:1’s with your people and practice the responsibility of bringing out the best in them.

  • What are they doing when you see them in flow? In other words, what do they do that is so effortless to them that they may not notice it is actually an amazing asset to the team or family?

  • What are you grateful for in their character? See our virtue list and acknowledgment guide for ideas on how to do this in a meaningful way. Talk about WHO they are, not what they are doing.

Check out our video example to learn the difference between giving a compliment and giving an acknowledgement.

This may feel awkward for you and them at first, but we promise it will start to become some of your favorite time together if you schedule it on a regular basis. This one activity will increase your growth when it comes to your presence and gratitude, as well as helps your people feel seen and valued. The benefit: there are many, but we truly see this one shift in practice to uplevel the output of individuals. When people see our best, we give our best.

What We Have Been Up To!

Cross Every Finish Line with Positive Intelligence

We are returning to work with the innovative and dynamic company, Leasepath, for the third time. As a way of bringing their diverse and virtual team together, Leasepath engaged us in delivering a book club with a group coaching twist. In the past we have explored James Clear’s Atomic Habits, Stephen M Covey’s Speed of Trust and now, our favorite-to-date, Shirzad Chamine’s Positive Intelligence. Over the course of 6 1-hour lunch and learns, we make the learning from the book tangible and implement it into our personal and professional lives with accountability and opportunities to grow beyond the sessions. Each session is tailored specifically to help the company reach its 2023 object of “Crossing Every Finish Line.” This highly motivated group of individuals takes first every time in our book!

If you are interested in bringing learning experiences like this to your company, please contact us to set up a discovery call, so we can be sure to meet the unique needs of your team or company.

Parenting Teens Through College Planning

This month we began an in-person parent community group for those raising teens and going through the college planning phase. We continue to learn about all options after high school and how to help our teens design their educational experiences throughout high school (and beyond). We also spend some serious time navigating the life of parenting teens while making sure we honor our sense of self, shifting from human-doers to human-beings. The mission of this community is to know that parents are the Chief Operation Officers and Chief Inspiration Officers of our families! Let's make sure we stay that way.

We meet in Thousand Oaks, CA at the Cat & Raven Collective - the most intimate and inspirational space in town! Sounds like your community? Contact us for registration details!

Spa Retreat with The DH Effect

We are going to round two at Spa Relais in Westlake Village! When you invite women to a beautiful place and nurture their spirit, they are reminded of their own power and grace. We are partnering with Spa Relais of Westlake Village Inn to provide a full retreat experience that focuses on the celebration of friendship, mind, body, and spirit. For us, it was a privilege to walk alongside the beautiful humans we met and help them recognize their own brilliance.

MIND: help boost your energy levels and enhance your mood with a strength and mobility session

BODY: reward your body for all of its hard work with a restorative massage

SPIRIT: prioritize your mental health with a workshop on finding joy in your life

The May workshop will be focusing on Joy: Connecting to the heart

Includes: a 50-minute Relais Massage , an instructional group workout with a fitness trainer , and a wine and appetizer reception followed by an intimate workshop on connecting to the joy in your life.
